The Old Folks Home

It just started snowing.

Boy that one moved fast!! I just stopped snowing here about noon...wish it would stay away. Actually it sounds like we could actually hit the 50's one day this week.

Of course, we are supposed to drop back into the deep freeze the last week of this month.

How much did you get?

We might get up into the 40's on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to that. I'll have to find my shorts and tank tops.

We only got about 3/4 of an inch but the way it was snowing for a while I thought we might get 5 or 6 inches. Of course on Friday morning we did get 5 or 6 inches so maybe that is the storm you are getting now? We are supposed to get mixed precip tomorrow and Monday. I hate it when they say mixed!

We got up to 46 or 47 on Thursday and I couldn't believe how fast that snow melted!

I went to work with over a foot on the ground and came home to dead grass...

. I have never seen it melt so much so fast. Since we have had a minor drought the last couple of years even the fast melt did not cause any real problems as all the waterways had plenty of room for it.

I was thinking of digging out the beach towel for that day in the 50's but then decided that would definitely encourage winter to hang around longer!

Just think of the shock at the sight of ME sunbathing!

What does the fault line look like?

The only way I can explain it, is that there is a line, that you might think is an old water line. You can see the different coloring going on.

There isn't much snow down by the foothills, so I may be able to get a photo of it on one of the mountains.

yes it is. The Highest and Lowest points in the continental U.S also the hottest and I remember hearing of Bocca by Truckee being at -45 years ago. can not remember the year but can look it up.

there are also so many separate Mountain Ranges here including the smallest one in the world. The Sutter Buttes which was actually a Volcano right in the middle of the Valley. numerous eruptions
left a handful of peaks.
Then there are the odd micro climates--A place on the Coast down south that is the only place in the US where you can grow bananas and a the North Coastal mountains where you could grow coffee. Sadly the main crop up there is a different kind of Ag Product!

I would love to see that.

(Dead grass or fault line, either one)

Went googlin...found a great photo of one on our mountain range that is north of us. We have mountains all along the valley..
Can you see the difference in color along there. Starts higher on the left side of the mountain, goes down, then dips quite a bit, then up a bit.
