The Old Folks Home

Ok, Here's the chicks from the first hatch. Color is still a bit off but what the heck. I've even labeled who's chick is who's except for mystery mom's babies. I'm pretty sure it's Dottie's chicks. She's the only one that didn't lay an egg in that pen yesterday, and all the other eggs laid didn't match up for size or color... Still need to verify. Mara is a BCM (bred to KE the bantam) Raven is a black bantam daughter of KE from Sara, bred to her brother King Wheaties. Turtle dove is my smallish Bielefelder/EE cross bred to Gen Lee my first silkie. Dottie would be a sister of sorts to Sara, mother of KW.

Hey Becky, your box of rocks is ready for its trip to the post office next time i go to town. It's pretty full. Some dirt included, lol.
SQUEEEEEEELLLLLLL! ROCKS! Thank you Cap, I will be eagerly awaiting their arrival! Dirt and all!

Morning old folks. Finally in the 50s today. I have been hearing a male robin bop bop bopping around the last few days. Whether he is one that has wintered over here or one who has migrated early it's hard to tell but it sure is good hearing him vocalize.

Plus the snow is almost melted. Just spots and areas where there were drifts remain and those will take time to disappear.

I have been busy putting up netting so the birds can go out again. Today I finish it up and throw open the pop doors for them so they can go out and wade in the mud. Plus they are starting to lay again. Good sigh that we are slowly sliding towards spring.

@CapricornFarm, how are you feeling? Are you over the omicron and back on your feet again? I have been feeling surprisingly well. Outside of my ongoing and never going away severe arthritis pain I'm actually 'feeling' like getting on with projects. All I'm doing is waiting for mother nature to cooperate.

Feeling a bit more normal, but gained weight laying around and eating sweets to try and boost energy. So glad it's gotten up to 50° today. Going out to fill stock tanks and let the goats out.

I'm glad to hear that. That is what I did in August only I ate chewy granola bars without knowing I had diverticulosis. Grain and diverticula do not get along. Learned that one the hard way.

January weather was bad here. Couldn't get out to walk or exercise. Now that the temps are moderating I can get out and walk....as soon as the mud dries up anyway.
