what defines good water quality at your house and what are the filters doing?
One is an iron filter. The water in this area tends to have an extremely high iron content. The other is a regular softener. Good water quality means it doesn't stain, and is soft enough to reduce soap usage some, but not overly soft that it becomes "hungry" water.

We have a softener and an iron filter too. HUGE improvement when we got the iron filter.
