There was no way I could get away from neck surgery. Huge..huge..blown disc. Constant pain. I had to keep my left arm raised to keep the disc from pinching. At night, if I didn't have my arm raised above my head that arm would be completely numb. Took forever to get feeling back in it once up. I went around with my arm up on my head for a long time before I got into surgery. The pain was horrible walking around with it down. Clear into my back. When I woke up after, my arm was down, first thought was, oh oh, I'm ot going to be able to move my arm. But yaay..it wasn't numb. It was a hard surgery to recover from, but well worth it for me. Whew..After a famous surgeon that is well thought of nation wide told me his least successful surgery was back surgery I decided against it. He sold me other options and I've gone that route.
Me too..just toes..knocking on wood.I was about 33 when I had to go to the podiatrist about a formerly broken toe. When my oldest went from soft baby shoes, to the more substantial ones for walking, she was not always the most "graceful", for lack of a better word. One evening I was sitting in my chair, when she came running up to me, didn't stop in time, so she accidentally stomped my baby toe, turned in place to back away, and either the stomping, or turning on it, broke my baby toe. It didn't break straight across, but from tip to first knuckle, down the center. It swelled, turned black, and hurt like the dickens. I taped it to the next toe, which is what you're suppose to do. It healed fine.
After a couple years, I suddenly started having swelling, and pain. I went to the podiatrist. After some X-rays, it was determined that it was indeed inflamed, as if it were still broken, BUT it was fine. (I've had this happen before with other things. A sort of delayed reaction, or a failure of my body to communicate, and send the message that something has healed, so it suddenly gets inflamed for no good reason). The podiatrist deadened it, and pumped it full of steroids to address the inflammation. I had this done twice, and have never had any trouble since then. That's the only broken bone in my body.
I had to look this up. Haven’t heard of it before..https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/dmso-uses-and-risksMy understanding is that free radicals will return to the site of previous injuries.
When they do, I put DMSO on the site. Problem solved.
For those on a phone..double Ttapp that..then click open.I had to look this up. Haven’t heard of it before..https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/dmso-uses-and-risks
Oh mine too! I don’t like the idea of a broken arm from trying to break a fall either much. My poor aunt had to have her arm strapped to a foam box for weeks. It looked like she was carrying an old tv. That’s what she called it “this dam tv”This is my biggest fear..hip.
you got that right!Sadly..truth hurts.
Hubby had emergency surgery on a Saturday because of a blown disc. He couldn't lift his arm above his week. And they put a titanium plate in his neck. There was no way I could get away from neck surgery. Huge..huge..blown disc. Constant pain. I had to keep my left arm raised to keep the disc from pinching. At night, if I didn't have my arm raised above my head that arm would be completely numb. Took forever to get feeling back in it once up. Great advice, I've heard this before. The Nurses know all! Thanks! My friend had a bone spur removed from her heel. It was shredding her Achilles tendon. The surgery itself went well and the surgeon took great pain to reattach the tendon. It did take a long time. I did her chicken pens for her while she was recovering. It didn’t grow back.
But….. With any surgery find the place that does the most ops of that kind. It won’t necessarily be the closest place. Then a tip a nurse gave me…Call the hospital and ask to talk to a nurse on duty on the surgical floor. Ask her for a recommendation. Tell her you’re a retired medical worker if you feel like it’ll help. Good luck!
