We have not been having too bad a winter this year so I am getting cabin fever really bad because the weather is fairly warm for Utah for March. I went out today to take some photos and the nearby canyons are all still closed for winter.

Not fair. Just went to a couple small ponds instead.

They may not be chickens but at least they are birds

Our lone Wheaton Ameraucana chick. Taking interest its brooder mate. Hopefully tomorrow we will have some more hatch. We will also be adding some PBR to the brooder with him/her tomorrow afternoon. They hatched on Thursday.

I have one little special need chick in the Brooder. It did not hatch well and has a bit of cross beak. It will not be used in the breeding program so I get to keep it!

It is doing fine so far.

Quote: We call them berm homes and there are actually quite a few of those scattered thru the northwoods. Mostly because they are so easy to build and especially to heat but we have also had our share of some really nasty tornadoes the past few years. Almost zero risk of earthquakes up here and global warming just not happin' so they are a very smart choice if your land permits.

Whew! That was a lot of posts to wade through. I need to sit down a minute.

Love, love LOVE all the new chick pictures! I can never resist a fluffy little butt. Mine are growing fast in the brooder and the eight in the incubator are on day 6. Hoping the bantam menace fathered a couple of them.

Dottie is now Dobby and is taller than his father, Diego. DH and DD worked on clearing all the brush that has accumulated over winter from the tree that were cut down for firewood while Maddy and I worked on coop renovations. We need more roosts, and I wanted to put the nest boxes low enough for Maddy to help with egg-gathering.

Dobby.

The new puppy broke my old glasses so I get to pick up my brand new purple ones in a week.

He is a wild child but he's learning. He likes the chicks and checks on them often.

Watching the Spurs game with Maddy, Daisy, Razz, Princess Buttercup and six brooder babies. Go Spurs!
