The Old Folks Home

I think my two roosters have fowlpox. Here I am thinking I'm doing a good job taking care of my chickens, scooping the poop every morning, washing the waterers, doing the occasional check for lice and mites. They both have black spots on their combs.

I'm going to let you in on a secret: all of our birds get sick. Birds are going to pick up worms, lice, mites, viruses, bacteria, etc. Over here I'm constantly fighting worms and bumblefoot. If you saw some of my biddies feet, you'd think I was a terrible mom. But we do one at a time, and do it when they get bad. When they heal, the next one comes in for tuning up.

I had a GLW get black spots on her face and comb last fall, I swore it was fowl pox. It healed in a few days, nothing came of it.

I'll let you in on another secret: Every single one of us gets sick. Exactly two weeks ago I got quarantined by the CDC for catching a nasty protozoa. The viruses and bacteria that surround us are amazingly adept at making us sick.

So don't beat yourself up.

Ok so now for Wisher. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I picture you with shortish brown hair, probably around 5'5". I think you are thin (from running around with your boys) and that you laugh a lot. I picture you with either a smile or a smirk on your face most of the time. I see you wearing the kind of shirts you described for me but sleeveless instead of long sleeved. I definitely think you wear gardening gloves.

Alright, now that's not right. Wisher has medium long length dark brown crazy curly hair. That alternate with dreadlocks.

What was I thinking??? I totally forgot the dreadlocks and let's not forget the really long sleeved coats she likes to wear!

BTW Stumpy, what SCG said? X2 I have lost a few to IDK but thankful it hasn't ever been contagious.

Thanks. Hopefully they will be all right.

I know what you mean. In September I had two days of bizarre pain, from my waist to my toes -- muscles and bones, especially bad in the knees. It was as bad as migraine pain. Blood tests showed Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I thought that was a New England thing.

Nothing wrong with dreadlocks and dark, covering clothing. I could drag up a few pictures of myself from high school that would probably scare your horse. Alas, to be well employed one must look and act reasonably normal. So here I am, masquerading as best I can as a normal person... one who happens to have 44 chickens, 5 ducks, 2 turkeys and 2 goats. You know, normal.

Ugggh! Did you have to take doxycycline? That drug is such a pain. Interacts with all kinds of food and drugs, and causes really bad nausea in most people. Sometimes the drug is just as bad as the disease it treats. Hope you're feeling better and there's no long term effects from it.

Now, there's an idea -- posting photos of ourselves from high school.

Now this is a family site.

Also why I didn't post the picture of myself in a hat with a drug brand name that starts with V on it.

For one of Mahonri's hatches I wanted to have a contest where the big posters sent in pictures of themselves (from any age) and the participants had to guess who was who. I thought that would have been fun, but I got vetoed. Probably because this is a family site and many of us masquerade as normal.

You know, I think that is what I took -- it was some sort of antibiotic. I think I may have had a bit of stomach bother, but nothing bad. The pain was pretty much gone in four days and as far as I know, that was the end of it. Thank you!
