The Old Folks Home

When I first read Georgia I assumed it was the country Georgia. Unless they have an Atlanta, too! So he'll be close(ish) then. It'll give him a chance to use his English!

No really, I had no idea they did missions in the U.S., too. I always thought it was local kids that did their areas.

How long has your son with spina bifida been out on his own? Can't be too long if you're still worrying over him...

...Although, my parents still worry about me and I've been out of the house 16 years! They keep telling me that there's pharmacists openings down in Virginia, and that I can come move "home." While I appreciate the sentiment, Virginia was never home for me (I'm a Maryland girl) and this place feels like home. Perhaps if something rotten happens between Chris and I - leaving me with no friends or family up here, I may consider it, but I'll probably stay anyway and trudge through it.

I would worry too no matter what age my child. ANd I'm sure you are also proud of his independence and accomplishments. Parenting is a double edged sword sometimes.

I suspect all parents have a worry zone for their children no matter how long they have left the nest. I keep looking at my house and envisioning a garage add on that has an apt over the top for both when both my boys move back in. ANd they are only 8 and 10. LOL

SCG, yes! He will be using a whole different language out there! I used to live in Florida, and Virginia. Moved here from Virginia back in the 60's. So, have to ask, how are ya'll doin? I still say ya'll, even if it's one person I'm talking to. I don't use it daily, but still find myself using it, and, I still have people asking me where I'm from once in a while, because they say..I have a southern accent? What? It's been how many years? I'm typing in draaawwwlll now, can ya hear it? lol

My son with Spina Bifida has been out for almost 6 years. I worry about him because he still deals with a lot of different health problems. Will be an on going thing for him. He is paralyzed from the waist down. Is in a chair. He does pretty good getting around, until it snows! Then he is doing the waiting game for snow plows to clear the areas he goes to.

I have fond memories of VA. That's where my grandmother lived, then we moved there. She had chickens! That, is, where it all started for me. I had to have the fake chicken things for a long time. Chicken ornaments, chicken kitchen towels and dish cloths, chicken clocks. Anything chicken in my kitchen lately. Not so much in my first marriage, but this one, my DH husband has had to see a lot of chicken things on the shelves...now, he's see's the real thing out in the back yard. :))

I have started adding chicken items to my home as well. First it was kitchen towels, then a cute amber and gold glass butter dish. THe silly things are a spiritual pick- me -up. Haven't met a chicken yet that doesn't make me smile.

I have an ever so slight drawl. Occasionally I pronounce something weird. I have a habit of tossing out a "y'all" from time to time, too. When I was at CVS the store I worked at was insanely busy. One day the techs were goofing off and the work was piling up, and there was a line of customers and that kind of thing pretty much gives me a stroke, so I threw out a loud "come on, y'all let's get moving." And I swear the whole place just stopped and someone goes "did you just say y'all?"

I would think your son knows his body pretty well, and can tell if something's wrong. Is he at least close if there was an issue?

I have a ton of chicken items in my house! I started collecting them, I can't remember what came first but people keep giving me chicken things they see or have and don't want cluttering up their house anymore. My office at work, same thing. Even the nameplate under my name and title on my office says "MOTHER HEN" underneath it. Luckily the BF encourages it (he was a source of a lot of it). I think my favorite item would be this whimsical little wooden carved chicken I bought at the Grand Canyon. I like the color, and it reminds me of what a great time I had.

I was so proud of myself for sleeping in today. I got up when my clock said 4:51 - then checked my phone and realized I had forgot to set my clock back. So much for sleeping in.

Yeah we just got up at our "normal" time so that means it is now a little after 2:30

Sorry you missed out on the extra hour!! THe time change really messes me up and my kids. I just sent my oldest back to bed. He's an early riser anyway, but I can't handle him up and about at 3:30 am!! His usual is 4:30 and that is bad enough!! At least he sits at the PC and works on spelling words. THis morning I sent him back to bed. DId I say I hate the time change thing yet? LOL

Hope you can go back to bed and sleep a little longer.

Glad we're all in the same boat. DiDi, I'm at least on EST so 4:44 isn't nearly as abnormal as 2:44!!!!

I'm not sure I can get back to sleep. I'm not tired, and my arms are killing me from a workout I did yesterday morning. Not really good for sleeping. I don't think BF went to bed until really late so he probably won't be up until 9ish. He's working night shift this week so he's trying to get his sleep schedule on for that. Meaning I've got to find something quiet to do for 4 more hours.

Lucky for me I have something "quiet" to do but DH got up before me so we can be as noisy as we want. Of course that means he is watching Sports Center and I am working on my paper for school.
