I need to go into hibernation just like a grouchy old bear. A week from today the Guessers are calling for 24° when I walk out the door to do morning chores. Why can't chickens hibernate when the temp is below 40°?

Single digits to low teens here for the next two weeks, except for the three days at or below 0 F. Those numbers just keep dropping.

I so remember those temps from my days out in NW MO. Back when the highs were below 0 a lot of the time in January and early February. I remember driving across Kansas on I-70 when it was a sheet of ice. Makes me cold to think about it.

Morning Old Folks out power went sometime in the night.
PUD here got it back fast as that.

5 inches of heavy wet snow here. I'm a little surprised that our power didn't go out. Not complaining!!!

I think we must have gotten 5" of rain over night by the way the fallen leaves are in windrows where they washed to. They will not stay pretty like that long as the free ranging girls will destroy the pattern that they are arranged in.

The road we usually use to get to town is flooded. But at least there's an alternate route.

Ice flows taking out bridges is one of the things I hated most while living out in NW MO. One took a bridge out that was a short route to a 5 acre block we bought and what had been a 3 mile drive turned into a 13 mile trip. The bridge was never replaced and it was announced that there were no plans to replace it.
