I spent the morning getting my cousin's computer working with the second monitor. She bought a brand new one, but kept her older monitors. She works from home, most of the time, so her job requires the use of 2 monitors. I offered a couple weeks ago to set it all up for her, but she had already made arrangements with our cousin Will.
Ok, so cousin Will is this highly paid computer whiz, IT tech that works for a national company. He's been doing this for years. This is a simple set up, with no frills, except the second monitor. He's more than qualified for the job, right? He finally goes, and sets up the computer, but couldn't get the second monitor working. He had my cousin order another cable. The new cable came, and nope, it didn't change anything. He told her that her monitor was probably too old for the newer technology, and she should order a new one.
My cousin called me last night, and asked me to come look at her computer set up. When she told me the problem, I told her that some of the older monitors, you have to go into settings, and manually select the input. She didn't know how to do that, so I told her I'd go over this morning.
I took various cables, and a spare monitor. When I got there, the very first thing I did, was change the input setting in the non-working monitor. Viola! It jumped to life. Now, you would think an techno expert with years of experience, would have known to check the monitor settings. It took less than a minute to fix the problem, yet she's been without her computer, for at least 4 days.
