I'm at the end of the boomer era (born in 1962), but my greatest generation parents instilled a lot of what they learned and were in me. Like, get up and go to school. Give me an alarm clock, I'll do it by myself.'Silent' just get up and go to work. No one else is responsible for you. You are responsible for yourself.
Yup. Hubby and I are both savers. Result? We're in our early 60s, retired, debt free, fit, and healthy (as far as we can know). Can we afford expensive vacations every year? No, but we don't want them, either. Many have never had to do without. Now folks buy clothes with holes in them. When I was a kid my mother was busy mending those holes. People say of us you seem to pretty much do what you want. How is that possible? Because we did without when first married, stayed out of debt, invested when possible.
My favorite place to shop for clothes is Goodwill and other thrift stores.
