The Old Folks Home

'Silent' just get up and go to work. No one else is responsible for you. You are responsible for yourself.
I'm at the end of the boomer era (born in 1962), but my greatest generation parents instilled a lot of what they learned and were in me. Like, get up and go to school. Give me an alarm clock, I'll do it by myself.
Many have never had to do without. Now folks buy clothes with holes in them. When I was a kid my mother was busy mending those holes. People say of us you seem to pretty much do what you want. How is that possible? Because we did without when first married, stayed out of debt, invested when possible.
Yup. Hubby and I are both savers. Result? We're in our early 60s, retired, debt free, fit, and healthy (as far as we can know). Can we afford expensive vacations every year? No, but we don't want them, either.

My favorite place to shop for clothes is Goodwill and other thrift stores.

My Mom would say I am a hoarder, not a saver. (looks at tower of computer towers).

I love thrift stores.

The Princess made many of the kids' clothes and most of her maternity clothes. We heard of/found a lady who sold maternity clothes and purchased 3 dresses as I remember very reasonably. Weird the things that you remember.

I remember my mom hemming one sleeve of my pajama top, when one elbow wore through. She sold me on the idea by saying, "If anyone asks if you have long sleeves or short sleeves on your pajamas," you can say, "Yes."

No, nobody ever asked. :gig

Hubby and I collected IRA contributions. :lau

That's a good answer :D

The amount of stuff my family fixes to save a bit is quite a lot. Especially electronics. Those are one of the few things that I rarely buy new.
