Hi everyone I am new to this but thought since I also am on the other side of the hill this would be a good place to start! I have 6 Easter egger hens and 1 rooster. My one hen has been crippled from birth, did not have the heart to put her down but am happy to say she has adapted and is doing well. Also have 2 goldfish a musk turtle and a jack Russell. Would have more if I could but in the same shoes as the other hard to get good help when we leave on vacation.yeah spring finally here getting out this weekend to clean the coop and may be some gardening!

I can't WAIT to do a taste test with our eggs, organic ones and just cheap-o ones!!! That will be a fun experiment. I'm going to do a blind taste test with the roommates and my BFI will eventually do it also with the whole cooked chicken. I'm not, however, looking forward to eating my babies, but that's why I got the dual purpose breed! :/
Do not forget to bake two scratch cakes, one with store eggs and one with pullet eggs from you Pullets.
My kids would NOT eat our farm raised free range eggs--they tasted different!! lol WHen they became the ONLY eggs in the house-- the story changed. lol
We also use turkey eggs and duck eggs. Duck eggs make the best icecream!! ANd I hear bakers love them above chicken eggs-- so Dragonfly you might need a few duck hens, too.
welcome! This is a great site, and this group of people are awesome! I'm a new chicken owner myself, just got 15 two day old chicks from Wisher1000, the sweet lady who invited me here! I have 9 Easter Eggers and 6 Black Orpingtons. They're so cute but growing fast!Hi everyone I am new to this but thought since I also am on the other side of the hill this would be a good place to start! I have 6 Easter egger hens and 1 rooster. Ronott1 -That's a great idea about the cakes!
Arielle- I've never heard that about duck eggs! I actually would really like some ducks. I'm really worried about the hawks and coyotes though! Plus I think the raccoons might get to the eggs before I do!
I'm sure some ducks do just fine in a coop and run. My birds fly really well so they don't usually suffer losses. THey stopped going to the woods after losing a friend.
Ron -- where is that wonderful duck graph?? THe one on egg production in ducks.
THe shape and size of the snood. smaller is a girl.Hi,
I have a question. I decided to get 1 turkey to live with my chickens and I want it to be a female. The feed store is bringing in 15 assorted chicks is there a way to sex day olds (or at least an educated guess)?
