The Old Folks Home

DH just arrived home early from work and is taking a few days off-- shingles. Fortunately I've already had chickenpx and the kids are vaccinated. but I think I will call the pediatricians office for more in formation regarding what to expect with known exposure.

Gotta put a pot of chicken soup on!

It's because you've had the chicken pox..that you get the shingles. Good luck on not getting them any ol time. Very painful. Hope your DH gets better sooner than later!

Wow, I JUST sold three cartons of a dozen eggs to a group of tourists at the Pub!

One couple is circumnavigating the globe via yacht; they met the other couples in Half Moon Bay a couple of weeks ago and they agreed to meet today in Fairplay to go wine tasting. Sailing from Austria. The male half of that couple requested a beer based on the brew - by color - in my mug... And liked it. (He doesn't like too pale or too dark an IPA.) that started the conversation.... He didn't want his wife to "bother" me by asking if I had eggs "with me" but when the Half Moon Bay lady asked and I went out to my car to get the carton, the gal from Austria jumped in to ask if I had more.... She is THRILLED to have a carton of two-day old eggs to take with them on their trip.

This resulted in the "don't refrigerate or wash" discussion initiated by the third couple. I didn't even have to mention it; I just confirmed the Austrian gal's regular practice as being the best. And why...

Worth a second beer, doncha think?

Hi everyone I am new to this but thought since I also am on the other side of the hill this would be a good place to start! I have 6 Easter egger hens and 1 rooster. My one hen has been crippled from birth, did not have the heart to put her down but am happy to say she has adapted and is doing well. Also have 2 goldfish a musk turtle and a jack Russell. Would have more if I could but in the same shoes as the other hard to get good help when we leave on vacation.yeah spring finally here getting out this weekend to clean the coop and may be some gardening!

So I came home today and the one chick I have been worried about is still going strong but found one that was fine this morning, dead! No outward signs of stress or illness. Even in death is looks healthy. What am I doing wrong? I am afraid to leave the house now. I don't know if I have the fortitude to hatch and manage chicks.....it has been to upsetting for me. I know I sound like a ninny but it is killing me. I was going to hatch another batch but I am leaving it to DH.

The one that is still a little matted, I have already washed him twice in warm water. I was thinking maybe add a drop of Dawn to the water and see if it breaks up the remaining matting. Any advice? I don't know what to do with his head because I read not to get it wet.

Okay Wisher
Here I am .I was too busy reading the GESE Thread last night. On page 60 so I still have 100 plus to go.Not sure if I will ever catch up.I candle my eggs again today (day 14 ) 4 were still clear so they were not put back. I have 59 left in incubator.
Hello everyone,Hope you don't mind my jumping in. I think Wisher thinks I am an " Old Folk " .Just cause I was born in 1961.I am in S.E. Ky. Live on a farm with DH,DD,and DS.

Quote: Docs told him to avoid people who have not had the chickenpox already, or not vaccinated, or those with compromised immune systems.

DOcs started DH on an antiviral right away, and the eye doctor added a medication for the eye. His eyeball is affected.

I kinda have to laugh-- when I saw the first 3 pox, I recommended that he get to his doc asap.I did n't know what it was, but rather because I didn't know what it was, he needed it diganosed. Of course he waited until his eye was reddened, too. Same as I remind him every year to schedule his annual. but he is far too busy for that.
