The Old Folks Home

It never got above 9F here yesterday. Right now, it's "only" down to 5; I was expecting below zero this morning.

The furnace is running more than it's off, but that's ok. We don't use the woodstove at these temps because it doesn't heat the basement or the mudroom, and there are pipes in those walls.

I'll bake something(s) again today to help warm up the kitchen/living room, and do a load of laundry with hot water to help warm up the wall in the mudroom with the water pipes in it.

Yesterday, I took advantage of the very cold to defrost the chest freezer. I put all the food in totes and moved them out on the porch. I found some good things, and some freezer burned chicken. Which I thought was lost, but google says otherwise! I'll braise it in bone broth in the oven (more warming up the kitchen!) and shred it for enchiladas or something.

Good morning old folks --- bbrrr - a reminder to be grateful for shelter from the frigid temps. There are many others less fortunate than we. Here's to hoping all our old bones stay warm!
Not sure why... but i think about that a bunch... being homeless in like Chicago... just DANG!

Not that homeless is ever a picknick... but homeless in Houston has got to be better than homeless in Chicago. Brrrrr

I am very grateful for a warm house and a roof with zero leaks (or at least.... none that I have noticed)
