It's certain, God knew what he was doing when he ignored my prayers for a girl and gave me three boys!
Well, I'm still wondering why the Almighty saw fit to give me a girl. One of my friends raised 5 boys. She'd have liked to try one more time for a girl, but medical issues intervened. My husband asked, "just how many shades of green do you suppose she turned when she heard you had a girl?" "Tell him, '27,'" my friend said. "But, but, how am I going to do this? Boys I can deal with, but a girl? My dad used to call me "the middle son (I have an older and a younger brother); how am I going to raise a girl?" She just laughed, "you'll do fine." So I have a son who never goes into the pasture because he's afraid of Syd the Man-eating Mini, and a daughter who, though several years younger than him, can make Syd mind her p's and q's but is a bit spooky about little kids.

Separate the eggs

I use tomato baskets and then zip ties by color:

Agreed!

There are tiny leg bands you can get but always ensure you remove those as the babes grow or (gross!) they can dig into the leg as the babe gets bigger...they do get big fast too!

I would also suggest you may use different coloured nail polish on several toe nails (in case some wears off on the one toe) or toe punch on web (on the waterfowl webs is easy but sometimes these toe punch marks DO grow in...so not fail safe method) between toes of landfowl or webs of waterfowl.

Dollar store finds...I use two matching desk drawer containers (can be bleached to santize) with two tye wraps for hinges and cupboard liner for a no slip bottom. I have to fasten TWO strong rubber bands around each closed container. DUCKS jump, hit top and bust out...no problem with that if secured with rubber bands..always two bands jest in case one gives out. Very tenacious escape artists--feisty little quackers!

Have on hand for all hatchings...Electrolyte in Gatorade (nfi--only ever used once on transported poults...never needed to do at home hatches), glass tea light holders are perfect size for hatchlings to use for water and hard boiled egg yolk/starter feed offerings, marbles in waterers to stop waterfowl from main objective of drowning selves, big shiny marbles to entice even turkey poults to peck at starter and EAT. Candler, and various colours of cupboard liner--cut to fit size of containers--anti slip surface. Toss when soiled.

Hope this helps with some people's hatchings. Good times, eh?

Canuck Bock, My brother gave me the exact birthday card last year- I liked it so much I kept it even after taking the $$$ out. He aced it tho, his grocery store sells the cards at half off. I know it was a pricey card.

Chicken Canoe you are my hero to save those precious little chicks. Since they had them boxed up without your approval, I think you should have said - "sorry I thought they'd be 50 cents each since you closing them out". It's just bee - esing but, they might have gone for it.
