The Old Folks Home

Well folks, I have been gone for a while. Got busy with the in- home day care and my own 5 kids. Life is busy! The chickens are good as is the family. Trying my first time to incubate and hatch some babies. Not sure how that will turn out, but I'm giving it all I've got. Today is only day 2 in the bator. We shall see... My 10 yr old son just got 14 baby chicks from the 4H program here last week. I am slowly becoming over run with chickens! But I love to watch them. While the little ones are out playing, I'm watching chicken TV lol. Glad to see all of you again :)
Hi again! Welcome back!!!! Chickie TV is the best!

Good luck with your hatch

Doctor's office called today. The results from the sonogram show the lymph nodes are good. The surgeon may be upset with me, and I don't care, but I'm not going to let him remove them. I meet with the anesthesiologist on Wednesday morning, then the surgery will be Friday. Prayers, and positive thoughts are positively being answered.

That is great!

Hey, y'all.

We could really use some prayers, or good vibes, or whatever your particular belief system is. It's kinda complicated, and I don't want to say too much, but my DS is having some real problems with this senior project that is a requirement for graduation. Let's just say that there's a good chance he may not graduate if we can't somehow get this mess straightened out.

I will if you will do the same for my son. His grades are good, but he doesn't test well and I hate those exit exams. He's so stressed out. Still, he does work with an IEP, but he's far from the vegatable they told me he would be when they wanted me to donate his oragns at 10 months old. We also didn't get anything done for college and he has my husband's VA benefits to pay for it. I'm pulling him out for a day to go talk to one of my daughter's employees and see what we can get done. I feel so bad that I had Bill move us out to Modesto before he died and that Dakotah had to go to such a low rated school. We were in one of the best districts in the Bay Area where all my other went and I couldn't go back to get him the right help.

I know your son will be just fine. I'd even sacrific a chicken for him, but since I can't even process one, that's out. Good luck. I'm sure he'll do fine.
Prayers and hopeful thoughts for both of you.

Long story short, my kids were perennial straight A students - until senior year of high school. She was in one of the best girls Parochial schools in the area. He was in the best one in the area and in the top 10 in the country.
They just quit studying and doing homework. It seemed like such a waste to do all that work for so many years and lose it at the end. My daughter just passed by 1 point. Two years later, my son did the same thing. He ended up not graduating with his class. The school said that if he enrolled in college, took a college level class in calculus and English(the two he failed miserably) get at least a C in each, they would give him his diploma. He aced both of them which showed he could have done that the second semester of his senior year and gotten a scholarship but he blew it. He didn't continue in college choosing to work instead. Then he had a horrible accident and almost died. After he recovered, he started going to school again, about the time he should have graduated college. He now seems on track for a degree in Actuarial Science in 2 more years, with plans on advanced degrees. We shall see.
I'm not sure why my daughter blew her whole senior year, she just got lazy. I lost my lifelong job that spring. I was working out of town during my son's whole senior year and that may have played a role but in the end everyone is responsible for themselves.

It's very stressful, actually, it's devastating. You think your kid's lives are going to turn out one way and then it seems like they're ruining them right before your eyes and you're helpless.

My point is, what seems like a disaster will be ancient history in 10 years and may be of no consequence. Perhaps replaced by one or more other disasters by then, but that's life.

Their schools were pricey to say the least but doable when I had a good job.
They're good kids and I've been blessed but things just didn't work out like I thought they would.

Sending good vibes to BL and Wolfi's sons, in abundance.

My son had a similar thing happen senior year -in college - he was certain he was failing a course he needed - I never saw him so upset over school. Thankfully he passed by a 'hair'.

These situations are just hard on the mamas

And the Papas.

X2!
Finally a graphic representation of his user name, I love it!

X2 again!

Thanks to all your friends with intact memories I am able to say on the correct day, Happy Birthday, ChickenCanoe!

Hope you were able to get Mrs. CC's travel rearranged and that you enjoy your opening day tickets :) DH is a Cubs fan, and for the first time in recent memory, watched them win on TV - most games he puts on, he turns away in disgust after they hand the game to their opponents.
So when the wife got up around 5 she told me about the text and the flight delay out of Chicago. I said, "why don't you call them and see if they can rearrange your flights so you don't miss the flight out of Tokyo". She said, I'll just go in a little early and work on it there".
When she got there at 8, they told her, "if you had called, we could have put you on a 8:15 flight and got you on an earlier flight out of Chicago".

It all worked out ok though. They rerouted her from Chicago to Hong Kong, and then a Cathay Pacific flight to BKK.
I just checked and that flight just left HK about 20 minutes ago. She'll be getting in about an hour late (just after midnight) so not so bad. My daughter already has a room there.
My daughter just posted
"Happy home opener Cardinals! And Happy Birthday Dad! Enjoy the game, wish I could be there"

"It's been an unforgettable month in Vietnam. I'm sad to leave. — traveling to bangkok from Noi Bai International Airport Hanoi, Vietnam."

So they're both in the air right now.

~~So, short story about my user name (and thanks OZ for the graphic representation). I've been canoeing my whole life. When I joined BYC, I had just finished building a chicken tractor that day. For some reason when asked for a user name, tractor and canoe became synonymous as means of conveyance. In my strange mind, anyway.
