The Old Folks Home

ChickenCanoe, it is helpful to share these stories - makes us believe the unexpected potholes on the road to adulthood can be navigated. My son was a stellar HS student, and was able to get about 80% of his tuition and room and board paid with scholarships to University of Denver. He should be graduating next month. He decided to take a leave his LAST QUARTER and finish in the fall. Head shaker. Brilliant, kind, thoughtful young man, he's made me proud countless times in his life, so I guess he gets a pass for needing a break. Just hope he doesn't do what his mother did and wait 30 years to finish his degree.

Our youngest daughter, 23 this year, was adopted from Bangkok and arrived here when she was five months old. She was a wonderful baby and did well in grade school. When she got to middle school she started changing. In high school things got worse. She was very intelligent and wanted to be a marine biologist, but then in her senior year she just stopped going to school. She would've graduated at 17 and since she wasn't 18 yet, we took her to the local community college for her GED...they asked why she was there because she was placing so high on their tests. She did finish her GED. On the night before her 18th birthday, she didn't come home. She started living with her boyfriend and became pregnant. We now have a four year old grandson. BUT, she has grown up and we now have a wonderful relationship with her again. We are truly blessed!

I bin away this weekend from reading the posts on the Home...working intently on a thread for one of my chicken breeds...so I have like some over 70 or so posts to go read to catch up but in the meantime...must make this timely post before the window of opportunity closes up tight.

Happy BIRD-Day Chicken Canoe...the day thou wast HATCHED.

You know we are going to tease the daylights outta you...pick on everything we can, especially your handle...canoes and chicken tractors...ha ha ha...I know better...Yes, I know better.

It is your secret desire to be a Canadian SUPER HERO! Yeh, the Village has many unspoilt tracks of continuous wilderness (just so darn cold no human ever dares go there to ruin it), maple syrup, back bacon, blue noses from our shoddy dyed sailing mittens, & especially our Wiser's Rye Whisky, and oh yes, the BEER (our beer is better than yer beer
tongue2.gif
!). Just to name a few of our Canuck amenities...but I know the REAL reason you call yerself...

<<<Chicken Canoe>>>

I can truly say when I first read that I had much mirthful laughter...for it is a Canadian icon that bears the regal title of:

MR. CANOEHEAD...crime fighting superhero of Algonquin Park!

They only did 13 episodes of CBC's Four on the Floor but laugh we did way back in 1986! It was a prelude to another of my favourite almost underground very rough, rude, crude, and raw comedy shows...The Kids in the Hall (comedy group that is somewhat like Monty Python--KitH was formed in 1984 but no TV show until 1988...I am told KitH ran in the States on HBO and CBS from '89 to '95).

I am a sucker for any group that will make fun whilst tossing chicken feathers (the Chicken Lady, Rooster Boy, and the naughty skits about "Gotta get Laid!"), singing renditions of one of my fav campfire BUS songs (Nobody Likes us...Think I'll go eat Worms)...the MY PEN episodes, and my favourite of all time (Rick too), Mr. Tyzik attacking the flatheads and saying, "I am CRUSHING yer HEAD!" LMBO

Four on the Floor:

I think the CBC was pretty economical in its budget expenditures (something the North American governments would be well advised to catch a few pointers by) in that they used the canoe theme once again...not just on Four on the Floor with Mr. Canoehead...but to teach many of us Canadians (amongst other viewers) a bit of history...French fur trader history...set in a modern day office scene...

Kids in the Hall:
Course you knew we could never be nice/nice to you on your special day, eh?

My vision of you CC...during active duty as Mr. Chicken Canoe....

Quite the spiffy SALUTE, eh? You've had lots of practise, yes???

SO love the plaid vest, the "army" boots...especially with the RED long "John" thermal underwear (one way to stay extra warm, get the woolly itchy kind--feels real great next to the skin--scratch scratch/fidget fidget!)...most form fitting flattering eh?

Please someone, please tell we are NOT getting old when we leave the house without our pants on...

"PANTS? I thought I remembered to put those on today...??? Oh well, best you be averting yer eyes...decent thing to do, eh?"

Song "Alouette:"
Alouette, gentille alouette,
Alouette, je te plumerai

Je te plumerai la tête.
Et la tête! Et la tête!
Alouette! Alouette!
A-a-a-ah

Translation...laugh now...all about plucking a Lark...

English translation:
Song goes onwards to not only pluck the head, but also the beak (the beak, really?), eyes (eyes always need to have the feathers removed from the eyes...oh my eye!), neck, wings, legs, tail, back...language of romance disguises the simple fact that the French are so very cruel eh?

So have a good & cold frosty beer for me (but NO Chocolate Choo Choo girl drinks, could end up homeless in a park like Ray the businessman did on the Kids in the Hall)...extra helping of snackies (free for all on the FOODS!), and clear that throat and CHEER loud...dance like nobody is watching (in your own mind's eye; shake yer booty) when the Cardinals hit a home run for you...specially just for you to shout about!

Have a bonafied wonderful day good man and as the KitH might say,"He's Hip, He's Cool, He's NOT NO 45!"

We love you Chicken Canoe...yes we do!

Doctor's office called today. The results from the sonogram show the lymph nodes are good. The surgeon may be upset with me, and I don't care, but I'm not going to let him remove them. I meet with the anesthesiologist on Wednesday morning, then the surgery will be Friday. Prayers, and positive thoughts are positively being answered.

Great news!
Totally understand, been there with the doctor thing. You have to trust them, especially if you have a good one, BUT, only you have a PHD in your own body.
Keep us posted

My hope is the surgery goes the same way.

Getaclue, oh good! So good to hear that!

ChickenCanoe, happy birthday on your real birthday!

CanuckBock, I love the Kids in the Hall! I still say, I'm squishing your head! My dear friend has her teenage daughter hooked on it hard. I remember singing the Nobody Loves Me, Guess I'll Go Eat Worms song, is that where it came from? I couldn't remember where I heard it, and no one I know recognizes it if I sing it :)

My mom taught us that song when we threw pitty parties for ourselves.
".....Big fat juicy ones, itty bitty little ones...nothing like a worm. Bite their heads off, suck their juice out, through away their skins....I don't know how birds can live on worms three times a day....without a pickle." That is what we were taught.
