I was very poor at the time. I think I was making about $175 a month. I ordered it so I had to eat it. I couldn't afford to buy anything else and I was hungry.

It's definitely an acquired taste. Like lutefisk for Norwegians.

Lutefisk requires bad taste. It's horrible. Just plain horrible.

They do a lot of boar down here in La.  But they are GAMEY.   So I'd really soak in buttermilk for a day or two.    My handyman is a hunter, year round, coon's, possum, boar.  Anything that is predators for his chickens.  I asked him what he does with the meat.  He said he sells them.    Got to taste lousy.  Uncastrated boar. 

Since Wild Hogs are pests you don't have to shoot only boar. Younger males and females can be shot or trapped.

No worries, I'm used to being laughed at. And I have very thick skin.

I raise Silver Campines. They are really hard to find and when you do, the quality is not what it should be. I have been looking far and wide for an old line that has been kept up. I just know that there is an old time poultry breeder out there somewhere with beautiful SC birds. Last night, I received info on a 79 year old man that has them. His father raised them in the early 1900s. I was so excited. I did a little research and it was looking promising. I called him this morning and he said that his SCs are only a few generations from hatchery birds. I am a bit disappointed, but really enjoyed talking to him. He said he would share with me if we could meet up in Columbus (November) for the Ohio Nationals, or in Knoxville (December) for the Dixie Classic. I will have a hard time justifying the expense of one of those, much less both. I am already going to Texas in two weeks to pickup birds.

I don't suppose any of you want to split a room at a big poultry show?

Kathy Gleason in northern Texas (I believe) has silver large fowl. I don't remember who she got them from but I don't think it was a hatchery. She goes to the Oklahoma Classic show every year and probably some Texas shows as well. My daughter (who is not currently home) may have her contact info. I can try to get that to you later.

That ad says "silver campine old english game" which is not a campine at all just a silver campine patterned old english game. Using one of those might be acceptable if you wanted to raise bantams but you'd have a heck of a time breeding out that wing position.

If you decide to come to the show in Knoxville let us know. My DW and 2 DD's and myself are planning on going. We live in Knoxville.
