The Old Folks Home

I think the political, security and social structure is in such turmoil with new people claiming to be in charge with no consideration of what it takes to run a government and civil society, all hope for proper action was lost. It is a war zone after all.

HI EVERYONE!!!! I HAVE MISSED YA'LL!!! So I am officially a nurse! and I have my first official job! :ya Everything here is going great. How have ya'll been?
That's awesome, congratulations!
Good morning friends. I think I am going to need several espressos to get me thru this day. Started out early because it was too hot and muggy to sleep in for me and our the chooks. Hubby slept in a bit which was just fine by me, good hubby. He finally crawled out and plopped on the couch in front of the fan where I was able to give him a huge hug and "I love you" and tell him a huge "Happy 20th Anniversary"! I spent most of my adult life as a single mom (married and divorced very young) with no intent of ever re-marrying when this knight in shining armor rode into my life. Funny how you can not even know you need rescuing until you are :) Then, I no sooner started for a fresh cuppa when the phone rings. It is the wife of hubby's brother. With a quick apology for calling so early, she asked to speak with Pa (never a good sign). The brain tumor has returned for my sweety's brother and it's bigger than before. :th He's on meds to try and shrink it and they meet with the neurosurgeon on Thursday to set the date for the next surgery. Your prayers for him and my sweety would be greatly appreciated. I think I need to go outside and get a little chicken therapy now.
Prayers for your brother-in-law, SIL and your dear husband! I'm so sorry to hear that! Much love and hugs!
Do you pray? If so, please pray for my mentally handicapped sister. She has been living in a special home. They went swimming at a lake here. She was found listless in the water. She wasn't breathing, someone got her to start breathing a bit until the medics got there. She is inti bated and has a breathing tube. The dr. gave us all of the different scenarios. 72 hrs. they will know better how she will be. She was still unconscious. I can't believe this happened. There will be an investigation.
Prayers sent also for you and your sister and your family! I hope she is ok, and I really hope that someone gets fired over that! You can't go swimming without a lifeguard, especially in that kind of situation! @CanuckBockI love your new babies! So cute! I can't wait to start hatching my own eggs next year! I already have some friends who want babies! My new babies went out into the coop this weekend, after I did a very hodge podge job of dividing the coop in half, lol! They are very happy though and even all slept on their roost on the second night, so proud! So sorry about the goose fright, I know you must have felt so bad!

I didn't post it yet, since you haven't turned in your homework, but I'll let it slide this time, so here's another segment of Cooking and Carpentry with Felix. No imperial conversions though as a punishment.

Blueberry pie

100g butter
3 dl oatmeal
1 dl wheat flour
80g white sugar
50g brown sugar
1 large egg (or 2 from our chickens)
salt
cardamom
vanilla extract

Mix everything together and line a pie dish with the crust.

350g blueberries
50g sugar

Pour the berries into the crust and sprinkle the sugar on top

Bake for 45min at 175 deg C. Serve with vanilla custard.

We had an ex tempore get together with the neighbors tonight. We had purchased a pizza stone for the grill, and decided to test it tonight. We were 8 people (4 of them small children) and ate 14 pizzas with all kinds of toppings, Italian salami and prosciutto, chevre, mozzarella, paprika, tomatoes and fresh basil and rockets. It was delicious. Blueberry pie for dessert.

WOW. Awesome.

WOW. Awesome.
It was. I've said this before on different threads, but we really hit the neighbor jackpot with the people living here. The ones we share this semi detached house with care for our chickens if we are away, and the next house do that sometimes too if our closest neighbors are away. Everyone takes each others dogs on walks every once in a while, and everyone helps each other with all kinds of building and maintenance projects. I can always borrow tools from one neighbor if there's something I don't have, and everyone brings their leftovers for our chickens. Amazing people. When we tell our friends about things we've done with the neighbors, they're shocked. Earlier in the summer we had a get together at our neighbors, we're the whole street was invited, all ten households. Really great atmosphere.

And about the pizza stone. I have one of those Weber charcoal grills. The pizza stone really turns it into an Italian pizza oven. The pizzas took just 4-5 minutes to bake each, and were delicious.

Very cool. It starts when one moves in. If a new person moves in, one should go out of their way to welcome them. If one is the newcomer, they should introduce themselves to their neighbors. It does one no good to find out years later that they live next to a creep or moron.

That's one thing I don't understand about yank weather, always with the real feel or windchill aspect. Somehow I think it might be because us Celsius people associate temperature so strongly with what form water takes in the temperature, while the Fahrenheit scale has a bit different way of looking at things.

I always thought the windchill was kinda stupid. Once it hits a certain temperature, for me it's negative 20, it really doesn't matter how much colder it gets, it feels the same. I'm going to dress the same at colder than that because at that temperature I'm wearing all the possible clothing that I can fit on my body and still have the ability to be mobile in.

Blueberry pie looks wonderful! Our blueberries are just now ripening. I'll likely be going this weekend so I can do my jam and maybe some pie!

Ok, not as easy as I thought. It took me longer because I got caught up reading all the old measurements like peck, or gill.

I did have to round up the degrees a little because we usually use 325 or 350, not in between. I put scant instead of saying almost on the dl. How'd I do teacher?

Thanks for converting the recipe.

Instant or regular oat meal?
