The Old Folks Home

Ok, not as easy as I thought.   It took me longer because I got caught up reading all the old measurements like peck,  or gill.  :lau   I did have to round up the degrees a little because we usually use 325 or 350, not in between.   I put scant instead of saying almost  on the dl.  How'd I do teacher?

Thanks for converting the recipe.

Instant or regular oat meal?

I use regular, not that I know if it matters. I always use what's handy.

Linda, good job.

Cyn, glad things are looking up!

Thank you everyone. She is now out of ICU. Starting to keep liquids down.

SCG..yes, it will be hard on her. She's been told, and she didn't like the idea. Fri. will talk to the new home management about arrangements. She's a sweetheart, has her stinker days, but will get used to it.
The Detective thought it was a good idea. I think they are going to give them..how was it put here..all shades of He//..? The state is going right on in there and will be doing an examination of all of the residents. Lots of questions. I think one being..who was watching these kids..as I put it, they are like kids..while they were in that water? And why this lake and not a pool? He said he would be getting some answers for me. Told him I hadn't heard much of what all happened, he says, oh, we'll find out.
Thank you again. :) :)

Hopefully the new place will have a good plan how to get her integrated and quickly. I'm also with oz on the lawyer thing, wait to see what the investigators find out before adding more chaos to the situation. Hope your sister will still be able to visit with her friends.

I think car horns should sound like a tommaru longcrower with volume up to danger level. It would get attention because it's such a unique sound and it's also a great way to remind neighbors that you HAD to GIVE UP roosters because of them.

Gave me my morning chuckle.

Actually, JC Whitney does manufacture a horn with a rooster crow (and other barnyard sounds). The unfortunate thing is that most states it is illegal to have anything but a "beep beep" horn and you could end up with a steep fine....or worse.

There is plenty of time for lawyers.

Just rejoice in the fact that you have a potential negligence case instead of a wrongful death case.

The state will do an investigation and decide culpability.

Larry Parker can get you money after that.

Hug your loved one and get her back on track.
Morning everyone!

Well said Oz, well said. Hugs and prayers of gratitude first, let the police do their work and discover the facts, then if there was negligence (which surely appears), the lawyers will find you.

Beautiful morning. Cold night (no frost, yea!) but warming up quickly. Happy chookies. Molt/summer break seems to be over and the ladies are getting back to work. Still only getting a couple eggs a day but that's a 200% improvement!

We don't believe in putting poison into the food chain if there is any way at all we can avoid it so we set a lot of live traps when the chipmunks and red squirrels get too thick. When we catch any (notice the "when" not "if" ) Pa takes them for a tractor ride to the state land. Anyway, one little chipper has taken to sitting on the porch rail waiting for me in the morning to put out the girl's breakfast and I decided it was time for it to go on vacation so I set the trap. The chooks know the sound of me rattling the trap and come running for a treat. You see I always bait the trap with peanut butter. ( Not that horrible corn fructose, cooking oil laden goop, but real peanut butter, peanuts and a little salt, ground and blended in it's own oil, yum.) Anyway, the girls love eating the leftovers off my fingers. There is nothing funnier than watching a chook with a beak full of peanut butter!!!

I had two hens die in last two days. Not sure the cause. They were not sick and they were laying. They were 18 mo old. Can chickens just die like that?
My motto is "Chickens just Die"

At 18 months old, good layers and a hot day will cause Hens to die of liver rupture. It goes along with fatty liver disease which is exacerbated by the excellent laying. I have had two Australorps die like that. They looked perfectly healthy, laid eggs nearly daily and then fell over dead on a hot day.

I sent them in for a free Necropsy provided by the State of California so I know for sure what killed them. If possible, send them in for Necropsy. Other States have the same program. Her it is Http://cahfs.ucdavis.edu

What did the lab say, Ron? Just "ruptured liver?"

When I sent mine in for necropsy, the first results were inconclusive. Final results said infectious coryza. I am skeptical, they had no symptoms, the birds were almost all male, and less than a year old.
