The Old Folks Home

Oz: why not go to the main source like greenfire farms does. U love research...u are a people person...u teach heart surgeons how to surgerize or whatever yall call it...an Aussie passport maybe could get u some award winning uk sop ccl. Idk?

Just wanted to show off my nearly 6 month old Chanteclers they are so sweet I just love them. One pullet has faught with the hen in the next pen trying to steel her poults so she can be their momma. She keeps calling to the poults and sits by the fence. lol

They look good! Thanks for sharing.

I would love to. The costs associated with setting it up are too much.

I have three legbars left. All I can do is hope that I have two hens and a roo. Come late fall or spring when the weather is better for shipping eggs, I will try to add more genetic material into my mix.

I'm so sorry, Oz. That was a tough break. I know how disappointed you must be. Try not to let it get you down, it is not as big a setback as losing Bernie and you recovered from that just fine. Take a deep breath and then put your head down and keep pulling.

Thank you.

I am not giving up. Just bummed.

I will take a few deep breaths and refocus.

Overall we are doing well. Dominic is doing well. He is devastated over the loss.

He knows how important those chicks were and how hard it is to hatch shipped eggs in our environment.

Oh oz, so sorry. Harder for you to come by eggs than for us here in the states. Not as much traveling time for our eggs either. How are those silkies turning out..or did they hatch well?

That's the beauty of chicken (poultry) shows.  It is not nearly as competitive and political as dog, horse, or cat shows.  The animals are shown in cages, without any indicators of who owns them.  I go, and I suspect others go, as well, to make contacts, socialize, and learn.  I can talk chickens all day for two and a half days and no one thinks I've lost my marbles (like they do around here!)

The people are friendly and helpful (the majority are, anyway) and will be happy to take time to help a novice.  I saw several of the established breeders giving good birds to junior exhibitors, and I was given a pair of grey call ducks that I was admiring just because I made a comment that my son would love to have some of those.  I didn't intend to bring home ducks, but I couldn't refuse, right?

I was given a rabbit at a rabbit show...it had snuffles...I did not take that rabbit home. Lol.
Don't look a gift horse in it's mouth :)

I don't need to worry about chicken shows though, in the past ten years there has been one chicken show in Finland, that gathered maybe 50-100 people. Chicken keeping has a long way to go here.
