The Old Folks Home

Yeah, DH made certain I knew that I had to only consider women in my search for a roommate. Spouses can be such party poopers.
What doesn't he understand about us being from the 'Old Folks Home'?

Haha, well that would go along with their behavior now. The gamier built birds have a lot more character, though I like Wilma the Maran's personality.
Another bird you may be able to get that would do well in Finland is the Jaer from Norway. I've had quite a few and they're about the best bird I've found for both extreme cold and extreme heat.
By the way, if you've built your coop and run 5 meters from your bedroom window and like to sleep with the window open, don't fall asleep on the couch and then crawl to bed without locking up the chickens into the insulated coop. I've been listening to that rooster crow since 4 in the morning.
I had to install a baby monitor so I could hear the roosters in the house.
I've been reading about STD-surges in retirement homes. Just sayin...

We were actually just talking about what birds to get in case we need to replenish in spring. We were thinking about Isbars and Araucanas, preferably something with a strong blue egg color. The Isbars would require some egg smuggling from Sweden probably though. From they're I could possibly consider it. We would need a broody then though, we're not having chicks in the house again. My goodness they put out a lot of dust.

Yeah, we have no need for that. With the window closed and them in their coop you can sleep through the crowing, but if the window is open or they're in the run, you definitely hear it.

The monster under my bed didn't have any elbows. It's arms could reach up from the floor, but couldn't make the turn over the edge of the bed to reach any one on top of the mattress. As long as no part of me hung over the edge, I was safe. I could not, however, lean over and look under the bed, I was terribly afraid of what would be looking back at me. I wonder what the shrinks would say that means...........

There was a sketch show on TV here were a kid is yelling "Dad! Dad! There's a monster under my bed!" Then dad comes in, says "Don't worry son, there's nothing there. I can check to be sure." He then bends down and looks under the bed, starts screaming, and leaves the room quickly.

I have to admit, it made me laugh, but that would be some pretty bad parenting.

Thanks Ron for the explain. Just finally able to get back on! Couldn't load this morning, kept getting redirect not allowed errors, etc. finally had to clear my cache, run a cleaner, yada yada, whew!!!!
Oh, and now the BYC emoticons won't work! (insert falling down face first emoticon here)
It sounds like you might have one of the DNS cloning viruses in your computer.

Get a good anti virus on the computer and run something like spy bot.

I remember when I was a kid that you couldn't let an arm or a leg hang over the side of the bed or the monster could grab you and pull you under. It was terrifying if you woke up in the night and an arm was hanging off the side of the bed.

It just makes sense that if a monster lives under there, it won't venture out enough to get you as long as you're on top of the bed and under the covers. There are monsters in closets too.

This is my first thread of the day. And it took me 45 min to catch up. First, somebody put a FB site on and I was diverted 20 min. and another posted about traps and I spent MORE time looking around. Finally I'm caught up and happy. Good morning, everybody, I hope your day is going as well as mine. I'm old and the aches and pains are getting worse, but I have been doing a lot of heavy lifting and toting. Gonna take it easy until time to put out ice for the babies.

Predators are a big problem this year it seems. BYCrs in Northern California are losing chickens to fox attacks, Hawks, Bobcats, skunks and of course Raccoons. Remember those beautiful Pita Pintas? A person here picked up two from me and they wound up being a Pullet and a Cockerel. They are under 6 weeks old and still mostly white. She has been letting them free range un attended. The Cockerel is now Hawk Food.

The comment was that it was an acceptable sacrifice because it would be cruel to not let the chickens free range. I guess that is fine but Pita Pintas? They are on the endangered list and a very rare breed.

I know, they aren't mine any more but it is hard to let go....
