I need to candle my eggs soon.

What my incubator is supposed to look like (this was me before the insanity took completely over... note the purple egg, Kim!):

What it looks like now (this speaks volumes on the state of my sanity):

I still feel like it's too early to say absolutely not to the eggs... and I know if I take one out to candle it I will never, ever, be able to cram all those eggs back in there.

Incubator designed for 24 eggs... holds 34.

uh oh. I think I see an empty space or two there for maybe a couple more.
I shouldnt be looking at anything to do with an incubator. I am trying to refrain from even thinking about where I stored my incubator last fall

Hope you have a good hatch.

Absolutely. If my banty had been laying I could have easily gotten 37 in there.

I think everyone should hatch early in the year... POL pullets by the time the swaps start up... late summer eggs... with chickens that lay through winter... it's amazing.

That being said, my showgirl that I hatched for New Years 2012 is STILL.NOT.LAYING. Sigh.

nice incubator. what is your average hatch rate?

Worse 0% (Trader Joes), best 100% (home grown and shipped eggs). I usually hatch about 75% and of that about 66% are girls, on average. Of course I'm happy to get boys... need to fill my freezer...

My neighbor has borrowed my incubator twice now... I usually hatch all girls (with chickens... ducks for some reason mostly hatch male here)... my neighbor hatched 14 boys out of 15 chicks the last time and had about 75% boys the time before that. Settings haven't changed... just about 100 yards down the road... We don't understand it. She's given up.

Awwww. Hopefully with spring approaching she will get the itch :)
