The Old Folks Home

But I would have to buy cement.

I am REALLY trying not to spend money.

I do have one bag of tile grout......... I don't think I could get that to work for even 4 of the posts.

You don't think that with the posts nailed together with boards, that they will be strong enough? I have 3 feet of post in the ground, for less than 5 feet above the ground, at least for the corners. My two middle posts are not that good.

You'll need diagonal cross bracing to keep them upright.

Geez, you guys make me feel like a real slacker.

I was going to spend the day working on a new coop and run that I have been wanting to build for some time. Some of it involves "repurposed" materials, which need to be freed from their previous purpose. I had been making steady progress at disassembling a fence for maybe an hour when I ripped up the knuckles on one hand backhanding a t-post that I was trying to dig up. Work therefore ground to a halt while I toddled into the house to stop the bleeding. While I was doing that, a thunderstorm blew up, and it continued to be noisy and/or wet pretty much until dusk. In the meantime, my knuckles have developed a fair amount of bruising, and it has become pretty painful to close my hand. Looks like the construction project has been delayed yet again . . . .

I have so much to do every day and it's a bit overwhelming. Yesterday I was only home for about 4 hours. That doesn't help.

Everyone is so busy and love the dog pics!

I am having a problem with some roosters and was hoping someone could offer some explanation for it. I have three rooster who's combs are starting to turn black and flop over.
It is not been cold in AL. it has been in the upper 90's. I tried to google it and found that a lot of other people are having the same problem and asking the same questions.

No other symptoms?

Could they be fighting and it be scabby? Poxy?

SCG has a good point. It is fowl pox season now. Mosquito are the carriers and it just has to be in birds that are close to you, as the mosquito flies, so to say.

Two of my Easter HAL babies started laying this week and one crowed so today is the first day of freezer camp. We never tried processing this many at once before. Gonna do maybe 12 of the 23. One of the young BO mixes that I wanted to keep has become a stalking, pecking monster so he is definately going to go. So bye bye Butterbean.

Mojo is definately going. The hens all joined together and signed a petition to get rid of him. They are tired of having to run the gauntlet every time they need to lay an egg.

We are keeping one Easter rooster. Little Lumpy. He came from one of Dora's white eggs that had a calcium "lump" on it. We were afraid he'd try to pip through it and not be able to, but he made it out ok. So far he's been a good boy.

It's going to be an interesting day.

The patient is running out of patience. She wants to do so much and she's getting bored. DD just took her to the flea market to get her out of the house for a bit.

That orpy mix is pretty, but he's so mean.
