I don't know if Al-Jazeera, NBC, American Freedom Fighter, or Off the Grid News are considered proper news sources by the arbiters of such things.

They seem like they might be pretty dangerously low brow and not very credible to our betters.

I've heard that if Rachel Maddow didn't say it, it can't be true.

I don't know if Al-Jazeera, NBC, American Freedom Fighter, or Off the Grid News are considered proper news sources by the arbiters of such things. They seem like they might be pretty dangerously low brow and not very credible to our betters.

They seem credible to me, too - but then I used to watch Fox News to boo Bill O'Reilly and I watch Fox Business to cheer John Stossel, and the Independents, so what would I know?

I'm one of those people who actually does travel by rail and sometimes by boat instead of by plane. What annoys me is when people pontificate on the subject, and then jump on an airliner or run the air conditioner. One of the folks I hang out with from time to time uses recycled paper check blanks and has air conditioning and a Land Rover HSE. Another gets a new hybrid or electric car everytie a "more efficient" one comes out and doesn't consider the costs of producing the new one; she rationalizes that by trading in her car she is allegedly subsidizing a lower income family to be more efficient.

We're trying to put in a wind turbine in Nevada, but we have to petition for a higher tower than allowed by code in order to make it worth the expenditure for batteries, etc. The current code is based on "aesthetic appeal", which doesn't work well when considering solar panels or wind turbines. We are still trying to source some nickel iron batteries; there were some of those in Albany, Oregon that were going strong when they were close to 90 or more years old = for all I know, they may still be in use. They are enormous.

As it has become clearer - and correct me if I am wrong - the sensationalism was that there were people fined, arrested or forced to abandon an ill planned project in self subsistence because they failed to meet the laws of the land.

If that's the case, they deserve what they got. Being ignorant or defiant is not an excuse.

Every week somewhere in the USA someone is in a local govt meeting having ordinances changed to be able to have chickens in their back yard. Every month the supreme court declares a law that prevents equal rights for all citizens unconstitutional. Laws can be changed.

Whining over personal freedom to pump your **** into my water is never going to change that ordinance.

The post was in response to the individual who noted that he hadn't really heard any scientific evidence that suggested global warming wasn't a human caused problem; so I posted it to give him a place to look.

Have you ever considered using a passenger freighter instead of an airliner when you travel between the US and the Phillipines? Although freighters burn bunker oil, they are far less polluting per pound of passenger or freight than an airliner.

Just saying.

I use sea freight all the time actually. It takes 9 weeks door to door. A little longer than I can afford to take for myself.

"Just Saying" taking a jab at me for flying is a little personal. I am cognizant of the fossil fuel required to lift my lard *** off the ground and an thankful that the airline has switched to more fuel efficient aircraft.

The 9 weeks of consuming food and no productivity on a freighter is also a bit of an issue. If it was more efficient, millions of Canadian, European and Australasian twenty somethings would be on ships instead of planes as they travel the globe learning what poor urban planning looks like. They would gladly spend a few weeks at sea to save 50 bucks.

In the USA I live 0.4 miles from work. I fill my car every three weeks and try to plan a list of things to do all along the same route.

In the Philippines I have a car that's run by a 2 liter turbo diesel. I haul a trailer if I need more capacity.

All our lights are LED in both countries. We have 16 watts (4x4watts) burning overnight as security lights in the Philippines.

We run a 1/2 HP AC in our bedroom from 6pm to 4am. Its thermostat is set at 78F. I don't consider myself a "green" person. I don't do "the natural" bologne. I love the concept of GMO. I love efficiency. I abhorr waste.

Oh and additionally, my immigrant self, immigrant wife and soon to be immigrant kids don't fit in your ideology of how America should position itself, but the tax dollars I generate in offshore income is appreciated by your government. My immigrant babies will have an excellent life with all the rights and liberties afforded by any American (save being president). And they will be cared for by an immigrant nanny.

One more.... Child restrictions in China did not see dead kids hanging from trees but millions of female babies did die of sudden infant death syndrome until the parents were blessed with a boy.

In thirty years China will be importing care givers to look after its aging population. It's already importing wives for the sons.

OK. You were wrong.

No one was arrested, although she was forced to connect to the city water system. It was decided that they could not force her onto the power grid.

As for ill conceived, it would depend on how she treated the rainwater she used for her water supply.

She was not dumping sewage into anyone's water.
