The Old Folks Home

Mmmmmm I have to agree with Hennible's choice of men! Johnny Depp is one of my favorites, along with Orlando Bloom and Leo too! Johnny in Chocolat, Benny and Joon, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and Don Juan DeMarco...swoon! And Captain Jack Sparrow of course :)

Felix, the additions to your coop look great! I'm thinking of wrapping tarps around the sides, leaving space at the top for ventilation and see how that goes. May look into a thick clear sheeting. I like that the sun can come thru something clear. The bottom couple of feet is metal roofing at least, so that will help cut the draft. I was reading about that open front coop idea and that seems pretty fascinating. I may try one in the future.

The Grand Canyon trip photos look amazing! It looks like y'all had a great time! I've never been before, really need to get out there soon. I haven't been in any of the western US mountains, only the eastern.

I like the idea of an open front too, but I think it requires a slightly bigger coop to work. Plus it needs to be directed away from the wind, and preferably facing south to get maximum sunlight in. Our coop is so small what with an open wall, it would just blow everything in, especially since it's facing the wind.

Nah, the idea is that the rest of the building is tight, so even though the entire front is open, the wind doesn't blow in. Same concept as a glass full of air, put it straight down into water, the air stays in the glass, because it can't escape.

you live in the deep south, you really don't need any tarps of any kind. I still have a few chickens living under a table, only one side completely closed up...and we have dropped down into the 20s.

My opinion regarding Johnny Depp is that he only looks good in eyeliner, but when he puts the eyeliner on he's hott!

I guess I agree! What is it about that dark eye look on him. And, why didn't I know about this movie? When in the heck did that come out? This yr..last yr..5 yrs. ago? lol..don't make it to the theaters much anymore. This .. Lone Ranger looks good. Is it? Anyone see it?

Yah, miss fresh seafood here, too, in New Mexico. Sushi in the high desert leaves a lot to be desired. Now I'll be thinking about crabmeat all day.... sigh.

I'm in the high mountain desert too, we do sushi at home with stuff we get at the restaurant supply place where all the sushi places in denver get their fish. I just buy the fish, make the rice and wasabi, my bf slices and rolls. We'll have 6 people over and stuff ourselves silly with grilled eel, tuna, salmon, octopus, smelt roe, for about $35 feed 6 starving ppl.. we eat really well, as we're foodies. Which is probably why my bf goes along with my let's go get this kinda critter and this breed. The kicker- he doesn't even like eggs! He hates them, but loves our chickens. He did say to me- no more chickens until spring.

I asked for 2 incubators for Christmas. Yes already. B/c my bf gets an extra paycheck this month.. I gotta ask for what I want santa to bring now. And I saw this thing for chicks it's a heat thing with a dome and a nipple waterer thing, I need a few of those too lol.

I haven't had my coffee yet and it's after noon.. complete thoughts later.

Yum, sushi... Haven't had any in years. :(

When I lived in Las Vegas the quality of the fish (flown in daily) was better than some of the sushi joints in the San Francisco Bay Area!

Alas, in Albuquerque when folks go to dine raw fish does not pique the locals interest all that much....unless it were smothered in green chile! Ceviche, yes. Sushi, no.

But I complain not as the quality of food here is excellent. Only one bad meal when eating out and the restaurant closed for good shortly thereafter. It seemed fairly obvious in hindsight that their chef had left the building, literally and figuratively.
