The Old Folks Home

Out here they outlawed burning leaves and garden trash years ago but, of course it goes on in full sight of the police. If no one complains they just ignore it. I feel badly for those with COPD or asthma - the darn village just doesn't care and neither do the perps. Same with fireworks, when we were in the midst of a prolonged draught some idiot set his roof on fire and had to run for his garden hose. Cops didn't care. Makes me want to

but, they are legend and I am very small.

I just think that if everyone is going to be having fits about how everything should be recycled, then those same people should be for scrounging at the dump.

Probably in these nutty days, they should make you sign a waver...but then of course you are spending more money for that paperwork, that paper, and the pens.

Talking of crazy.....I had chickens roosting on top of their coop door. -sigh- i knew that with my design that that was a possibility.

I am gonna have to figure out how to deter that, or turn the top into a 4 inch wide perch. That might be easier.

Tomorrow the coop will have residents! Got enough done that they'll be safe inside and have room to flap their wings and get to act like real chickens instead of brooder boxed birds. Really jammed to get it done-ish (still have a bit of lattice trim on the under-area to complete for the building proper to be complete, but I sorely need those birds out of the back bedroom). Just need to add the feeder, waterer, shavings...and chickens. Hooray!

(Covered run still to be completed -- ergo the automatic coop door has been disconnected -- but that will be November's project)

That is a gorgeous, well made coop.

Thanks, guys!

It kind of feels like an opus as I've been at it for SO long. I do need to rework the nest box cover...It needs a couple inches wider for sufficient overhang and so next trip to the lumberyard will fix that. But in the meantime the girls in the back room need more room and their own space. This space is cavernous compared to what they're used to.

Well, we had our first loss to a predator, or possibly two. Then neighbor just rang the door, asking if it's a dead chicken in the front yard. Looks like Viiru has been mauled, and something ate all of her innards. Luckily it looks like she went quickly. Veera is still missing, I took the dog with me looking for her around the house, but couldn't find her, and it's getting too dark to see anything. Either she's hiding somewhere, or then she's been taken too. It's a shame. I think it was a hawk, that's the only thing I've seen around here, and to my untrained eye it looks like that's what dined on the carcass.
