@ronott1 I found that my hachery white Leghorns needed NO extra light to lay almost every single day, from start up until their first molt. My golden Comets, and production Rhode Island Reds can't hold a candle to the leghorns.

BUT, the leghorns fulfilled the other part of the stereotype too. After a year of laying one had a prolapsed vent.

That is good to hear about the day light hours and leghonrs.

Did they start laying in August to September? A lot of breeds will continue through the winter if they start laying then. It is a nice trick to use if you do not mind getting rid of old hens.
 
I have one either leghorn or white rock that continues to lay ginormous double yolkers sometimes 3 days in a row! When I say ginormous I mean they weigh 3.3 oz! What's up with that?
