Brahmas are big but grow slowly, aren't great layers and become setters frequently. So there are much better meat birds among the DP breeds.ohh I didnt even think of that! I will have to check with my feed store see what hatchery they use , we get very limited types here I should beable to get the wyndottee, astrolorp and orpingtons from them I want will investigate the hatchery name, if I do the brahmas I will have to hunt them down somewhere might be a few hour road trip, I was speaking to a breeder who is probly few hours away umm called fowling around or something
Penedesencas are called flighty but what people who say that mean is that they'll fly like they're about to die when anything gets close to them. That really means they're aloof or skittish. They really don't normally fly. I just finished a couple grow out pens that are 2' chicken wire. They all happily stay in. They're from 2-4+ months old.Ron, they're really pretty. Viiru was a bit of a escape artist too, and pretty flighty. Not flighty enough to elude the hawk though.

I am stealth breeding Pita Pintas, Partridge Penedesencas and Arkansas blues. I have shipped some hatching eggs this year too. This will be my second year hatching from my own flock.
I know but they appeal to me I thought they might be big fluffy broody for chicks n have a brahma roo for size of the chicks with the cross, I just find them appealing........maybe I wouldnt like them or maybe the feathered feet might be issue....Brahmas are big but grow slowly, aren't great layers and become setters frequently. not if I can find a local one, course driving 5 hours to pick up a chicken makes me wonder if I might have lost my mind it's a catch 22 drive far or trust and mail order.......... I dunno I guess the fowl wind will end up blowing where it landsA breeder will send them to you the same way..... in the mail....
