The Old Folks Home

Has anyone ever gutted a grouse? You can stand on their wings and pull on their legs and everything comes out, the skin comes off with the feathers and all you're left with is this nice big hunk of breast meat and whatever else sticks to the rib cage... A bit wasteful but I've always wondered if it would work with chickens...

I'd be really interested in whether or not it works, figure you probably just have to pull harder cause the chickens bigger... Bet it would work really well for bantams, quails pheasants, all the small ones....

I've skinned game birds, but we've plucked the chickens.
btw just saw your coop it's awesome :) I love the flower boxes, I want to do a small herb bed along the outside of my henhouse pen.......I just not sure if the dogs wont trample all over it lol thats project for the spring though...sighs I still need to do the gate for the free range area........

Hennible- I think chittlings are pig intestines. I love pork cracklin'.

Wind is blowing very super hard now, gotta try to see what I can do to control damage. I'm going to round up all the big roos and the ducks that need to go to freezer camp and put them in the greenhouse to with hold them from food/water to process tomorrow.

I really wish we had finished everything this past weekend

my bf has started referring to the new chicken condo as "Feather Downs" a permier upscale chicken and duck community. I wonder if they are happy with the current HOA guidelines? Lol I found paint in the basement to paint it to match the barn/house, but dang it, it's way too windy right now.

I'm freaking out, we only processed 1 roo 1 duck yesterday instead of all the ones we aren't going to over winter and ur's supposed to get to 16f today!, I'm not ready!!

Since processing took so long, we didn't get to finish the new coop/run reinforcing. Agh.

:hugs sorry! It is a pain...winter always shows up before I am ready for it.

anyone just reskin the chicken instead of pluck it?

I like skinning, since it is so fast.... It doesn't have to be wasteful, but it often is when I am doing it. We have done it when we just have more to process than we have the time for, and are getting worn out. The kids and I can skin very quickly..... I think because of practice.
