If they eat it I'll feed it to them... What's duckweed? Is it like pigweed?

I think you're the one that complemented this picture...

Hi, Wisher!

We have more than one species of duckweed growing around here. At one point, I was skimming it off the duckpond and feeding it to the chickens; my miniature horses thought it was great, too!

Or.....sitting in front of the internet all day? Hmmmmm

I enjoyed the last few pages Kathy

... The problem is now I want peafowl again ( talked myself out of it once already )
New city ordinances have rescued me from poultry math. They just didn't do anything about my chicken math.

I did want turkeys. I think I'll still hatch some quail and pheasant next year.

....Some of the purebred threads on the other hand......
I understand breeding to SOP but my lord, if your not showing and like a certain breed I don't see the problem with hatchery birds. ...
X2
I don't show and haven't been to a lot of shows so the following is just limited observation and I may be way off. The big shows I've been to though, it looks to me like some aren't breeding to SOP, just bigger and bigger. The judges seem to lean toward the biggest birds as long as all other things are correct regardless of SOP weight. Even silkies are getting bigger.

I remember when they locked the Washington state thread and then re-opened under another Heading . That was due to an enormous overload of posts.
There's no danger of that on the Missouri thread. There's usually a post or two each week, whether it needs it or not.

I've been sleeping for several hours and don't notice any sub normal activity on posts - I tend to nap a lot every day.
I call that well rested.

you see that with breed enthusiasts no matter the critter.... dog shows cat shows... .you name it....

OMG I used to show horses... Talk about stage moms... or dads.... My family just said... Go have fun...

Maybe even worse with dogs and cats.
Who knew that pigeon breeders were so avid, I didn't.
I always did everything for fun, even rodeos and such but it's just not that serious for me.

My mom said she bawled when we were too old for naps.
I remember when I was a little kid and didn't want a nap but my mother did, she would make me lay down in bed and she'd wrap her arms around me in a death grip while she napped. I would slither ever so slightly until I was out of her grip without waking her judging by her breathing. It would take a half hour or more. Freedom.

Two sisters, one older, one younger.

my mom really liked her naps..... Still does. She is a lovely woman, as long as she gets her rest, and is properly fed.

If she is tired or hungry

run for the hills, really really fast

My mother wasn't that lovely no matter how much rest and food she got.
My brother is 11 years older than I with 2 sisters chronologically sandwiched equidistant between us.

My problem is that I like to debate things. But then the other one goes and takes it personally
idunno.gif
But civilized arguments can be loads of fun.
I like to debate too, duh! IMHO, If we never discuss sensitive topics, they'll stay sensitive forever.

dsqard, very nice pictures.

Today it is not supposed to get over 40 degrees. I think the real cold is finally here for the season. Thank goodness SCG got me into sewing. I have a ton of projects going and planned. Yesterday I made the trip to JoAnn. They were having a big sale and were offering 20% off for Veterans. I think it is funny that the first time I "used" my veteran status was to get money off fabric.

Very nice hike pictures, and pin cushions.

It was 73 a couple days ago. Getting in the teens tonight and tomorrow night, not getting above freezing tomorrow. I had to drain all the auto water systems yesterday. Back to carrying water for a couple weeks.

My wife made note of all the freebies for veterans yesterday and encouraged me to get my vet card. I just don't know how many hours or days I'll have to sit in that building. I expect a huge wait.

I've seen her several times - in fact, I saw her just yesterday. She's been really quiet, though.

Too quiet, maybe she's under cover.

Been there. Plenty of timers but no battery powered that has a relay to turn off an electrical device. If you run across one please rsvp?
Got a cool solar shop lite at harbor freight but only a pull string switch.
You can get the My Pet Chicken timer much cheaper on eBay.

I'm working on something to run all my auto doors off of solar/battery. Not finished yet but I do have that timer and a car window motor.

I just tell them I was until they woke me up.

I love a GOOD debate. Nothing in a debate should be personal. It's supposed to be about the ideas and information. There is always more than one way to do things, because there is always more than one set of circumstances. Scientists are always learning more, different and new things. So what ever the debate is about the exchange of ideas and information shouldn't be personal. Feel free to jump in!

That's what I say too. My dad used to call me almost every morning about 10 AM and say, "are you still in bed sleepy head"? And each day I would explain that, "I work till 4 AM, get home at 5 AM and get to sleep by 6 AM, so now I've been asleep 4 hours."
I finally couldn't take it any more. I started calling him on my last break, which was any time between midnight and 3:30 AM. When he'd answer, obviously out of a sound sleep, I'd say, "you still in bed sleepy head?" He'd chuckle a bit and after 3 nights of that, he never called me before noon again. At least that got me 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. No wonder I was always sick, always run down.

I have a couple topics I'd like to debate that shouldn't offend anyone nor become personal.
One that makes me crazy, money in elections. This recent election cost $4 BILLION. What did we get for that? A boatload of robocalls and negative ads that no one wanted to hear.
What could we have gotten for $4 BILLION?
K-12 education for 24,000 kids.
Or build 100 ebola treatment centers in Africa and run them for years. $4B is 10 times what we're planning on spending on the ebola fight.
Or pay a year in-state college tuition for a half million students.
Or a year of food stamps for 2 million Americans.

So, we paid for arguing over ebola, education and SNAP, accomplished nothing when we could have spent that money on some of those things.
What makes matters worse is, thanks to the Supreme Court decision on citizens united, the bulk of that $4 billion is dark money so, theoretically, a Saudi Prince or drug cartel can buy our elections and hold considerable sway.

Or on a selfish note, one could take their family and all their friends around the world staying at the most expensive hotels, at the most luxurious destinations for 5 years and still have plenty of cash for all to buy souvenirs.
Or 5 round trips to the moon.
Or 10 Airbus A380s
Or 80 1963 Ferrari 250 GTOs, possibly the greatest sports car ever made. Trouble is, only 39 were ever built.

Does anyone agree that we should try to get money out of politics. I have some ideas how we can do that.

More things that bug me to come.
