I have some eggs set already. I did stop for a while, but I got the bug early. I have some OE's in, and some EE's. I am going to do the Easter Hatch A Long. I will be doing Welsummers, and Blue Barred Rock!

Fuzzy butts..fun. here's what I hatched about a week and a half ago. I was having fun showing someone how to use the befunky page.

These are OE's. From dfdesign...they have fuzzies on their legs, some more than others.
Their colors are gorgeous. Reminds me of the chichillas my aunt used to raise. Just beautiful. Never seen blue barred rocks...have to go look it up

man, that was funny, bamachick, still laughing

Ok, on with the days news...

Nice day, possible rain for us here.

Still getting 75% eggs from my girls....

babydoll (Rooster) has decided he is gay and refuses to mate with the girls, but wants his brother Poe.
(we have a don't ask, don't tell policy here).

Shorty (the horse) decided he is really a cat as I found him on hind legs seemingly trying to climb a tree.

My cats have killed off all little critters and now are for lease....

My chickens love them some mice parts....

That's it for now.

Life is still sweet, good and highly insane...

If nuts ran the world, just imagine what an awesome place it would be....
Nuts do run the world. Ain't it obvious?

Tick, are you just now learning about gender/species confused animals? I've been looking the other way so much for so long, I'm starting to walk into trees (gotta learn to give those things more time to get out of the way).

As for chickens eating mice (and frogs, and lizards, and baby rabbits, and . . . .) I define "omnivore" as, "eats anything that doesn't try to eat it."

Good morning DiDi. Have to ask..is it windy out your way? We usually have wind all through the year here, because we live just down from a canyon. Not this year, it's been very strange, but, a lot of snow.. a lot. This morning..wind! I think that storm they've been talking about is on it's way in. Not sure we will get a lot, but some moisture for sure.

Have a great day. There were a lot of posts to try to catch up on here...last I read, you had a dog to deal with..hope it's been staying home! I have one right next door that won't be quiet! Non stop barking for hrs. If the dog can bark, and the owners can get away with it, I wonder if I could get away with having a rooster? Less noisy, I'm sure. :/

Next month is March everyone! Can you see buds on your trees yet? We have buds on our front apple tree. Unreal. I'm getting excited for warmer weather. The snow has been pretty long enough. :))
The wind started here and the Storm has started in Davis, CA. It will be over to you soon!

Almonds are blooming. The plumb tree has buds along with my Ornamental tree. I hope that this year I will have enough sunny days to pollinate the whole three. It blooms in three sets so for the last two year I have only gotten a third of the plumbs. Three year ago I had a bumper crop! Lots of Jelly....

I want to do a test run before I get my NN eggs.We have a health food store here who claims thier eggs are farm fresh from a in town farm.I figured I would give them a try(then I'm not out much if it doesn't work). Have you ever heard of this working?

The carton has to have fertile on it.

I hatched two Trader Joes fertile eggs. Others have hatched Golden Comet eggs from Whole Foods.

Try to get the freshest and if possible contact the Dairy Manager and see if they will hold the eggs for when the get in to the store.

Good luck!

tick....you are not right

Exactly what I was thinking, word for word!

Can't resist the fuzzy butts any longer. I am planning on setting next Saturday or Sunday. Anyone want to set with me?

I have some eggs set already. ... I am going to do the Easter Hatch A Long. I will be doing Welsummers, and Blue Barred Rock!

I set 50 eggs Sunday. I couldn't stand it any longer, I spent too much time looking at my eggs hatching at other people's farms and just gave in! I will move them to the new hatcher I just bought (that worked out well, don't you think?) just in time to set for the Easter Hatch!

On a related note, does anyone have a design for a simple breeder pen that is not too elaborate or expensive to build? I am getting my first SQ birds and need to build something for them to live in. No free ranging for these birds, unt uh! I also need to help my brother design a small coop for his grand-daughter, he's getting her chicks for Easter, and I need a quarantine spot for new arrivals. How do you all handle quarantine? How do you make sure they new birds and the old birds don't come in contact with each other or with droppings? I'm thinking that I need to build something far away from the coop, but my free rangers could go over and check out the new arrivals. Then i thought I would set up a cage in the garage, but what would I do with the bedding when I cleaned the pen? Bury it? Haul it off site? There is probably a simple answer that I am just not seeing......
