Quote: The simplest design is from Rob Ludlow's Chicken coops for Dummies. It has not odd measurements and it is all square. Just modify it to add a run and you will be good to go! They basic design is 4'x4' but you could easily make it larger.

Cynthia no wind at the house or on the other side of the mountains at Dugway. Is it bad that I am hoping we get a bunch of snow tomorrow because we have corporate VIP's coming in from Maryland and I want them to see what we go through in winter out here?
On a related note, does anyone have a design for a simple breeder pen that is not too elaborate or expensive to build? I am getting my first SQ birds and need to build something for them to live in. No free ranging for these birds, unt uh! I also need to help my brother design a small coop for his grand-daughter, he's getting her chicks for Easter, and I need a quarantine spot for new arrivals. How do you all handle quarantine? How do you make sure they new birds and the old birds don't come in contact with each other or with droppings? I'm thinking that I need to build something far away from the coop, but my free rangers could go over and check out the new arrivals. Then i thought I would set up a cage in the garage, but what would I do with the bedding when I cleaned the pen? Bury it? Haul it off site? There is probably a simple answer that I am just not seeing......
Snow freaks out Maryland people. Make sure you have plenty of bread, milk and toilet paper. And make sure you drive.
We burned our bedding a few times in the wood stove. I'm guessing, Ms Alabama, that y'all don't have a wood stove.
Bon fire? Wienie roast?
Fred's Fine Fowl has a nice movable coop. http://www.fredsfinefowl.com/portablechickencoop.html
Oooh, and Fred recommends Nite Eyes, too! I love mine and I swear they're working, because there are night predators out here and they leave my property alone. Except for the owl... But he/she hasn't caught any of my birds OR my Escapee Bunny.
Why not start a compost pile with used bedding? Why burn it?
