I hatched Blue Egg Layers this weekend. Literally all weekend long starting Friday evening. Crazy hatch!

Aww, cute babies ron. I love the blues..do think that one is going to be a splash? That is something I am wanting now. I am hoping by chance I get one out of my EE hatch this month.
That storm you are having now, is coming our way, and we are supposed to get 6 inches out of it.

Snow freaks out Maryland people. Make sure you have plenty of bread, milk and toilet paper. And make sure you drive.

On a related note, does anyone have a design for a simple breeder pen that is not too elaborate or expensive to build? I am getting my first SQ birds and need to build something for them to live in. No free ranging for these birds, unt uh! I also need to help my brother design a small coop for his grand-daughter, he's getting her chicks for Easter, and I need a quarantine spot for new arrivals. How do you all handle quarantine? How do you make sure they new birds and the old birds don't come in contact with each other or with droppings? I'm thinking that I need to build something far away from the coop, but my free rangers could go over and check out the new arrivals. Then i thought I would set up a cage in the garage, but what would I do with the bedding when I cleaned the pen? Bury it? Haul it off site? There is probably a simple answer that I am just not seeing......

We burned our bedding a few times in the wood stove. I'm guessing, Ms Alabama, that y'all don't have a wood stove.

Why not start a compost pile with used bedding? Why burn it?

I like Fred a lot. BF got me his video when I was thinking about getting chickens. I must have watched it 10 times.

I have a couple compost piles going right now... I burned the shavings because those chickens had mites. It was a quarantine situation.
