New from the nationalhogfarmer.com

The Oct. 31 inventory of 1.949 billion pounds of beef, pork, chicken and turkey in U.S. freezers was the lowest October total since 1996, and the first such figure under 2 billion pounds since 2001.
What's the conclusion from that? Are we short of food or are we more efficient at getting food from the source to the consumer?

I remember hearing a couple years ago in a discussion about how poorly Americans ate. They said that if all Americans ate as many fresh fruits and vegetables they should eat, we wouldn't be able to feed them all.

Stay safe!

How are things in Ferguson for you now that the Grand Jury has reached their decision?
I was just watching the coverage and if anyone is watching the news, there's lots of live coverage from the Ferguson police station, the line of officers and the protestors across the street. Most of the vehicles in the lot across the street are media from around the world. That parking lot belongs to Andy Wurm Wheel and Tire. My whole family and many of my friends buy our tires from him. He's a great guy and has great prices on service and tires. I was there last week to buy a tire and they told me their business is down about 60% since August. That's mostly due to the media filling his lot. He's a peripheral victim.
Any of the news shots from the area, I'm intimately familiar with. Ferguson, Clayton, Jennings, the Shaw neighborhood, etc..
My son just came home from the shopping center about a mile from the house. He wanted to get some toys for his cat at PetSmart and a game from GameStop. They were already closed and most of the businesses there are closing early. That's about 3 miles from Ferguson.
I'd like to go to all the shopping areas to see who else closed or boarded up already.
Several law offices in Clayton near the Justice center have boarded up their buildings.

perchi, I've seen those too. Amazing..good thing they are pets..don't think they would do well out in the wild. Hopefully, they aren't out in the wild. Easy catch!

Good point, I'll come shopping then. I'll see if I can still walk in heels :gig. The pet store will surly have birds of sort, if not chickens. Then we must stock the bar! A little something from every country we stop should be in the bar I think...

Here at the University they try to get the old person to train the new person--while the old person is off at another department learning their new job...

Sounds like this has happened to you a few times!!!

When I first came into the position I'm in now the only training I got was "this is my (now yours) filing cabinet."

Ah, because I couldn't have figured that out on my own. Thank you so much.

I got even less training for this new job but at least I'm years wiser, now.

I've left the people covering me my outlook reminders for recurring events, my timeline of events for projects due, step by step DOS instructions for things only a few of us know how to do, and (so far) no loose ends of things that haven't been assigned to someone as a project to continue with. I didn't even tell them where to find my filing cabinet.

Well, I killed my first adult bird a few minutes ago.

I went out and found him sitting on the lowest roost in the coop. On closer inspection, he was raspy, snotty, and swollen about the head. I solicited help from my youngest and we dispatched him by decapitation with a pair of lopping shears.

I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I thought. I knew he had to go, and I did it. Just before I picked him up, I asked the boy if he was ready for this. He pointed out that the real question was - was I ready for this. I had a flash of hesitation, but said I had to do it. Then, he was holding the bird and getting set when he suddenly backed off and said wait. I said NO! I can't wait any longer and he grabbed the birds head and I snapped it off and into a feed bag he went. He flopped a couple of times in the bag but it was over quickly.

I was fine once the hard part was over. I am actually rather proud of myself. The first one is behind me, the next one will be easier.........I think.........
