Ron, I like the hatching video. By the way, have you seen any difference in upright versus lying eggs in chicks giving up due to exhaustion while hatching?

I have been hatching SG Dorkings on the side using tomato baskets this year for a local breeder. They do not seem to hatch differently.

chicks that externally pip usually hatch fine. If they start to zip, they never die from exhaustion. If the egg is gooey, they can get stuck and you have to help then--not exhaustion though.

Hatching is hard work, but the work is from using the egg tooth to zip the shell. Even the external pip takes a lot of pecks for a chick.

Ron, okay, just thought it might be easier for them if the egg is on it's side. It's fun to watch them hatch when the eggs are lying freely, they just roll about while the chick is working.
