The Old Folks Home

I've processed some pathetic looking birds for meat (showgirl and some Olandsk Dwarfs were among the most pathetic looking carcasses) but they were still delicious. I'm after the legbars for eggs. The other two in the trio will be dual purpose.

I was tempted by some of the barnyard mix eggs for offer - I do love a good mutt - but the slightly crested hens in this mix made me smile so I bid.

Next time we start hatching I'd like to have some Isbars and some Olive Eggers. And if these Marans turn out to all bee roos, some of those too. And maybe some more Finnish Alhos would be nice too.

For the roo's I'm going to try some nice roasted chicken recipes. We got a beautiful Le Creuset pot for Christmas that should be great for that.

Yesterday I had to take one of my Chantecler hens and put her in the layer flock coop. She kept flipping the nest box over and eating the eggs. If she keeps it up she will wind up on the table. lol
I have some chicks that are looking really good with nice bright yellow legs.

These birds are so friendly and so big I just love them. They kept scratching their food out on the ground so I cut the center out of the front of a milk carton so they can't do it any more. lol But it work's.

Sounds like a bird for Diva.
