The Old Folks Home

My experience as someone who has lived in Helsinki most of his life, is that rabbits are pretty hard to kill with cold. They've managed to survive pretty cold winters here. I was watching the feral bunnies go about all yesterday at Karin's parents again. There are loads of them there, I should try catching some and see how they taste.

Pretty excited. Just had a SG sizzle hatch. I wasn't aware that I could get those! Went back to the breeders/selling page, saw that she has a couple of different SG sizzles in there. Can't wait to see if I get more. SCG..they sell pretty good around here, but, I need a girl!

I read somewhere that you can also "steal" a swarm, at least with some bees. Don't really remember how that was suppose to work, but it's possible to attract them to an empty hive.

you have to make sure you get the queen in the process.... I watched a bee keeper do just that once.... the hive had swarmed and formed a night time nest under a lawn chair. We called the guy he came over and whooshed some smoke around the swarm to make them form up into a ball.... then he put a cardboard box under neath the chair and whacked the chair with his hand. The whole ball of bees dropped into the box... He whooshed more smoke to make them clump up again and he folded the lid shut.

I think in the process he only missed about fifty bees.

It was fascinating to watch. We then asked him if he got stung doing this and he said that when Honey bees swarm they are busy getting someplace and rarely sting. Their main job is to protect the queen with their mass.
