The Old Folks Home

Dominant hand, pointer finger.

Before I dug into it I took 1000mg of acetaminophen and 800 mg of ibuprofen and then ran it under cold water for a while until it was numb. It actually feels better now that the glass is out of it and I'm guessing the meds have kicked in. It will be sore tomorrow, I'm sure. Debating whether to put a rubber glove on over it and sew anyway.

Oz, no snow, you have no snow. It looks sooo warm there. I would say no fair, because you miss out on this!

Almost a white out during the day driving..the roads have been
very hazardous. A lot of accidents as the roads are turning to black
ice in a lot of places at night.

And these photos were taken before the big one hit. We got
close to 2 and a half ft.

Oh man! The pointy finger, on the dominant hand. :/ Can't a big bandaid wrapped all around it do the trick for sewing with it?

Pretty snow. We have had most of our snow and ice melt. Small patches of both left. Supposed to get snow on Sunday, though, to make up for it.

My finger is pretty greasy from the ointment I slathered all over it. I have 3 bandaids on but it isn't enough to cover it. I'd have to put a protective, non-leaking something over it to protect the fabric.

Are you sure it was sliver not a chunk? Sounds less like a sliver ...

Pretty snow! It's been snowing here all day. Big flakes too which is a surprise. Our low humidity here in the prairies usually doesn't give us large quantities of snow. I'd say it's been snowing in large flakes for ~3 hours and we got ~1" of new snow. Kinda comes by the 1" over an entire winter so it will add up.
The frost can go deep in the ground if given the chance. We need the snow to keep frost out of pipes as it acts as an insulator. Last year we had a big thaw and then another dip to -30C during which we lost our water line from the well to the house. We made do with a heated/insulated garden hose for ~4 months until we could dig in a new line. Thankfully my neighbour/boss owns equipment so we were able to dig a 8ft deep 100ft trench in a few hours and he backfilled for us the next day. Cost: $40 in diesel and some beers!

Still can't figure out what it came from, but this was the part that was broken off and lodged in my finger that had to be cut/dug out.

I told you, giant. It felt like a boulder, anyway.

So, I am officially now part of the crazy chicken lady brigade:

When does my card arrive in the mail?

Indeed SCG, with a splinter that size, I'm surprised you were able to function at all!

Just kidding... If I have to have one, I actually prefer larger splinters... easier to see and eliminate. Those small ones are a royal pain (literally) to find and remove. I typically dig them out with a needle or if deeper, cut down to them with a razor blade. Glad you were able to see it as glass, especially clear, is very difficult to see to remove.

Well it was much longer, that was just the piece that broke off as I removed the entire splinter. Usually I get wooden splinters, which are pretty easy to remove. Push pin under them, pull up. This one, because it wasn't bendable, had to be opened up with the pin and nail clippers so I could get the tweezers in there to yank it out.
