I have trivets for hot things. Some are made of silicone and others are wicker. I used to have some ceramic ones but they do break. I have used paper towels, dish towels, and wooden cutting boards for hot pans. The wood will scorch with cast iron though.

I used to have metal utensils for cast iron cooking but my family kept using them for the non stick. I still have trouble with that though since they like to turn chicken breast and etc. with a turning fork--and often poke straight into the non stick. It does not take long after that for the pan to start pealing....

. I now have silicone spatulas that can go up to 450 degrees instead.

I feel for you ron, mine do the same. I have asked so many times, just like when I asked them to put dirty knives in a glass next to the sink and NOT in the dish water. *sigh*

Alaskan - SCG sounds like it would make a great TV show "Fair Exchange."

Every week it's something else Like Player 1 doesn't want to have a root canal. Player 2 has to babysit the 3 worst kids in the neighborhood - they switch. Every one is mostly happy, player 1 still has a tooth ache - player 2 loves getting gas at the dentist & figures he'd need a root canal sooner or later anyhow.

OK. She likes loud noises, slow walks on the beach in windy winter weather (tonight would be perfect with temps predicted in the negative 30's) and looooves vegan food.

Sam, I think the fb like system has ruined the point of ovations a bit... perhaps you should be able to both like and give ovations on BYC as well. But a funny comment can be helpful as well, bringing a smile to someone's face can do wonders.
