The Old Folks Home

Anybody out there?

Got 14 White Marans eggs in the mail today from the 24-Hour Crazy Auction forum and it's the best pack job I've ever seen. The box was practically bulletproof. Reinforced outer box, newspaper cushion, inner box and individual egg cozies. Not a single crack and the air cells look great.

I have had eggs come that way before. My hatch rate was 80%.

good luck

Are those pipe insulating foam? It comes in different sizes so you can match the size of the eggs.

Anybody doing anything special for the Super Bowl?

I usually watch it just for the commercials, but that may be difficult this year as DH informs me we're going to meet a bunch of his new cronies. Somehow, some way -- good sport wifey -- I'm going to a party with a bunch of Civil War Reenactors. DH hasn't officially gone out with them yet on maneuvers as he's still got to take his musket lesson. He wanted to be a medic but they're putting him on the front line. As I told him, "Oh, yeah. You're a fresh target!"

(This is a non-costume event.... Thank goodness!)

I don't know about you guys, but I was having thread withdrawals.

I am thankful that the thread has not been closed permanently and that we have our "home" back. I know that it is easy to forget that there may be young 'uns lurking in the thread, but that is always a possibility. If you just must share your adult adventures, PM me!

Welcome Home, Old Folks! You were missed today.

Oh, yeah; new recruits are cannon fodder.

We had more reenactors than you could fire a salvo at around here last weekend. 150th anniversary of the fall of Fort Fisher.

Speaking of kids, I am doing some basic chicken classes for our county's 4 H poultry club. I have already done one lesson on "The Egg" and one on "Incubation." The next lesson will be on "Brooding Chicks." I am having so much fun. I get to talk about chickens to real live people who are interested and don't roll their eyes or make choking sounds. I get questions and almost always know the answers. The first meeting we had three kids and parents, the second meeting (first lesson) had six kids and their parents, and last meeting we had 14 kids, their parents, and several adults that had heard about it, and just wanted to come. I told them they were welcome, but they have to bring a kid! I hope to get some kids into showing large fowl and breeding heritage birds, but it is their choice what they pursue. I will help in any way I can.
