The Old Folks Home

Speaking of kids, I am doing some basic chicken classes for our county's 4 H poultry club. I have already done one lesson on "The Egg" and one on "Incubation." The next lesson will be on "Brooding Chicks." I am having so much fun. I get to talk about chickens to real live people who are interested and don't roll their eyes or make choking sounds. I get questions and almost always know the answers. The first meeting we had three kids and parents, the second meeting (first lesson) had six kids and their parents, and last meeting we had 14 kids, their parents, and several adults that had heard about it, and just wanted to come. I told them they were welcome, but they have to bring a kid! I hope to get some kids into showing large fowl and breeding heritage birds, but it is their choice what they pursue. I will help in any way I can.
cop chick's chook classes

maybe you need to go on the road

that sounds like a LOT of fun!!! I'm jealous!
BTW-sort of on the subject. I love books and I am a bit of an antique book collector. I have some very old farming and homesteading (among other subjects) that are pretty nice and some that are pretty much junk but I love the subject matter. Anyway, I just acquired a "new" book. Not quite as old as what I normally collect, I usually stick to pre-1900 and first editions if possible, but this one was in nice condition and cheap enough so I just had to scoop it up. It's Embryology of the Chick by Patton, 1929. Unfortunately it's a third edition but since it isn't a high value book in the first place, it's ok. Really interesting and some great plates.

Anyone else love old books?

Anybody out there? Got 14 White Marans eggs in the mail today from the 24-Hour Crazy Auction forum and it's the best pack job I've ever seen. The box was practically bulletproof. Reinforced outer box, newspaper cushion, inner box and individual egg cozies. Not a single crack and the air cells look great.
Awesome! Can you pm me the suppliers name? II'll be replacing a few birds this spring and want Marans. Thanks if you can. Hi jem! :frow At work right now and all is quiet. Yay!

Hi chicki! How are you doing?

@superchemicalgirl the hen is still hanging in ther. Tonight DSO helped me check he out. The egg I think went the otherway???? Or she isnt egg bound but has some other obstruction?

I probably won't get off of work until noon we have an ice storm coming. Hoping they're wrong.

Well got to go for now.

Be safe!!! I would rather 2 feet of snow than one inch of ice. I once thought one of my rescued hens was egg bound, turned out to be a lot worse. Fortunately she passed quietly.

Awesome chicki! The weird thing is her comb is still red????
I'll stay safe. Can't leave until replacement comes in. I made sure that she would be able to be here at noon. The temps are such that the salt will be working on the roads. Now I really got to go. Later.
