The Old Folks Home

Ron, this is the chick that I was saying I knew or was pretty certain it is a cockerel. This picture was taken 4 or 5 days ago and his comb and wattles have grown a lot. You could just see little pink lines before but they are very much there now. I didn't post a picture of him because I was sure he was a boy.I looked at him again today and he is 4 weeks old. He is the biggest one of all 10 and the only one with wattles. I have someone wanting the chicks already, 4 or 5 anyway and I am not wanting to let them go until I have an idea of what sex they are. This chick has advanced a lot since this picture was taken. Thanks for the help.

@dsqard Once again, beautiful pics.

Oz, nice score on the buck. Is he purebred?
A purebred will go for $600+. Out of my league. This guy is an F4 - 90+% Good enough for me as I started with local goats and I am not going for a stud farm.

As I create new offspring, my buck becomes redundant as I dont want to inbreed. I can only support 7 or 8 adult goats

So that should make the next generation capable of giving you milk for the cheese, right? I'm guessing the local goats have a higher fat content than production goats?
I have 9 doelings that are betweeb 40 and 50% dairy goat blood. This will bring them up to 65 - 70%.

it may take one more cross back to a 97% nubian to get the right combination. Nubians have better fat content than Saanen but I went for Saanen this time because I am trying to increase milk volume,

Puddin, yeah, something like that. I think it could be pretty cool. I would like to hear from someone who's had one in their yard for a few years, someone who could tell what kind of positive and negative experiences they've had.

Felt like spring today near Las Vegas. We went to the Valley of Fire state park to stay out of trouble in the casinos. Well I admit, I would much rather hike and take photos than gamble any day. Here are a few from our trip.

Beautiful!

We did that in front of the Forest Service office so I don't know that anyone had any real observations on it but they are neat looking, especially after they "grow in" a bit.
