LG or Farm Innovator conversion

1. remove the thermostat in place and cover hole. i use part of the side of a square laundry soap bucket.

2 .Follow instructions to wire STC1000 thermostat. Attach to heating element

3. position sensor on inside of styro lid at the level of you eggs using zip tie

4. turn the puppy on.

5. after inserting ear plugs place original thermostat in carbage disposal.

you now have a cheap genesis quality incubator

Looks like 2 hot dog timers
there are 2 different brand thermostats there - i was taking a picture to educate someone on why the stc1000 is a better choice.

i put it a plastic box i had here to keep it clean and out of the way.

I run all my bators on these thermostats

in the LG i use a 12v case fan running on a 9v motorola razr charger.

the bator is on loan, hatching turkey eggs in northerg LA

if its a new little giant with digital controls.....its a pain in the butt
for $17 you can turn it into a pretty smart bator
This is a great way to fix this bator thank you oz! OK where did you get the boxes and thermostat? Your a life saver! OZ I LOVE that box of chicks so cute. Maddy looks like she is enjoying the snow. Bamachicks what is your RSL egg?

Kathy, sorry for your loss. Seven years is quite a feat for a chicken.

Oz, my insulated waterer build got me thinking... rubbermaid totes and PU foam would make a nice box for a bator too.

My peahen ate own her own today.

Ate her own what?

Don't think my phone is smart enough (that or I'm not smart enough, lol).

I'm on a laptop and I do a screenshot (printscreen button), go to paint, paste it in, crop it and save it. It's much easier than trying to do anything on my cell.

Thanks. Guess I feel a little guilty because I didn't notice that she was ill.

Birds are very good at hiding how sick they are until they are very sick. Don't beat yourself up.

Alaskan all my rooms have heat vents so the temp does chang. That is my problem.

I saw some ideas on a thread when I was researching why my LG didn't hold temp very steady.
Couple things to do:
1. Fill up some plastic capped bottles with warm water and place into incubator. It will take a couple of hours to stabilize, then start adjusting the temp to where you need to go. This really stabilized mine. I used 2 poland spring bottles in each incubator.
2. Put a towel around the outside edge of the incubator. If you want to get fancy, I saw some people had built boxes out of wood (cardboard would also work) lined with insulation (or towels) with some vent holes and then placed the incubator in that. It helped minimize outside influence. I did not need to do this once I did #1.

My chicks even enjoyed hanging out with the bottles.
