Event:
Winter Storm Watch
Alert:

...A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON UNTIL
MONDAY MORNING FOR MOST OF NE COLORADO...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DENVER HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE
SUNDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...AMOUNTS OF 8 TO 16 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE
FOR THE PLAINS WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS CLOSER TO THE FOOTHILLS AND
NEAR THE PALMER DIVIDE.

The snow you've gotten SCG is incredible! It's been many years since New England has experienced prolonged snowfall like what you're experiencing right now. Most impressive! I'm seriously hoping that we do get the snow forecast for us this coming weekend... We need the moisture. You may still have snow on the ground in pockets come June!

I hope you do get it. Both because you need it and I have a perverse need to spread my snowy misery right now.

plant something.... even just some spouts that you eat in a week...

you need to look at something green.

Grab a garlic clove, stick it in some dirt.

naw..... totally eat them all up

It's a bit too early still to plant something but I need to do some shopping for a few more seeds that I'm out of. Maybe I'll catalog my seeds this weekend then figure out what I need to buy. That's always good for a few hours of daydreaming.

Alaskan is right. You could even grow some chives on your window sill. Or for a change of pace, take up the ancient art of pot holdering. Heck, that is what made me the incredible woman I am today. I kid you not

hahahaa

Thanks Perchie, I assumed EVERYONE knew what a pot holder was. I guess Alaska is so cold, even stuff on the stove or in the oven is cold enough to handle with bare hands. Live and learn

I don't think I need another hobby. I might be starting a new quilt with dsqard this weekend, plus I need to work on/finish up my easter table runner. I still have yet to see a picture of one of Diva's Famous Potholders.

The suet feeder is now gone.

...
It was empty, anyhow, with no way for me to get out there.

We have about 6 gillion feet of snow.

...
I saw that some cities are piling snow so high that they're in trouble with the FAA. Air traffic control is seeing the piles as planes.

Okay. Old Folks, I've got one for you. My coop is on a slope and one end is dirt floored and the floor of the other end is about 1.5 feet off the ground. That space under the floored end is where the goats sleep. Inside that end are my brooders and chicks over three weeks old.

Today, DH found a dead hawk under the coop. UNDER it! The bird looks totally unmolested, is likely young, and has beautiful plumage. The dogs can't get into that area, the chickens (roosters) were all locked up. It just has me baffled. I am going to call the state in the morning and see if they want to test it. Weird, huh?

I'm no hawk expert, but I think it is/was a Cooper's Hawk.
Hawks are susceptible to AI and WN virus. It would be a good idea to have it tested. Maybe a goat butted it into next week.

So no wild blueberries? What is the ground covered with then?
nothing but a bit of snow

The list is extensive but covers ruminants, swine and poultry.

I hardly ever use meds but am happy to have them when I need them.

Until cocci reared their ugly head this week, I have not given an anti-infective agent for months.

I have 9 Bresse chicks that are affected. It took 3 hatches to get it right and if they die - I am behind another 6 months

I understand. You have a lot going on there. Getting a setback on a breeding program is devastating.
Not having ready access to things makes stocking up essential.
I have an injectable and a water soluble antibiotic and corid on hand. I've used each of them once. That's about it.
As harsh as weather is here now, it tends to knock down a lot of pathogens/parasites.

parasites never let up in our environment

even with quarterly teeatments, you can see egg counts waning and then surging with a week of treatment
