we put chicks straight onto rice husks

we use some rubber mat over a section of it for 2 days with chick feed on the mat as well as in the feeder

the birds peck at the husks but quickly realize what feed is

We use newspaper. Never noticed them eating it when it gets tore up.

I am worried that newspaper will lead to spraddle leg.... but I need something to soak up the poop....

their feet are getting nasty too fast.

I was hoping the wood shavings would help keep their feet clean longer.

Smaller container...more cleaning.

yep.... I should maybe get a few cardboard boxes for their brooder.... triple the size or something like that...

Too soon~ she will ship them in the morning. We don't set eggs until March 14th for the HAL...which a lot of folks are looking for.
