Yup

So opossum goes in to eat chicken for dinner and ends up dinner for chickens. Sweet irony.
You know what they say about payback. It's most often raccoons that meet that end here.

I dont really want to touch it. Its not friendly. I may rehome it in my neighbor's truck.

Bama, DON'T PET IT! Shoot it, then bury it, or cook it, and feed it to the chickens. Good grief!

The 2 easiest options are to shoot it or drop the whole trap into enough water to submerge it. Then dump it onto the open fire. That will singe all the hair off and after it cools, drop it in the chicken run.

The more challenging method is to open the trap and hack it to death with a machete when it comes out.

I have close neighbors that moved out here from the city to get away from all the shooting so they tend to freak out when they hear gunfire. When I started using a duke leg trap I wasn't thinking about how I'd get the coon into the trash can filled with water so I used my son's bow and a broadhead. That coon chewed the arrow in half before he died. The next one went the machete way.
I can't believe how expensive broadheads are now. They were so cheap when I was a kid.
The coop fairy loaned me her catch pole. The plan is to use that next time to get it into the water and hold it down.
I keep one can big enough to submerge the box trap full of water just for that except that now it's frozen solid.

talking about babies...

my baby sister sent me two pictures this morning via text on the cell phone....

the first photo was of her 3 week old baby, the second one was of the new baby goat.....

at least she think her kid deserves higher billing than the goat....

dsqard that is a very pretty pattern you both are working on. Don't forget to post pics of the little bundle when Miss Olivia arrives. :)

Oh you know this Nana will be posting a ton of pictures! ;)
