If any of you are curious, I'm doing a duck hatch experiment with the Janoel 48 that I bought as a hatcher and NICU. Went around the yard and collected a bunch of eggs. Most are Muscovy (35 days) but there are probably some quackers (28 days).

I finally got some powder and weighed it yesterday. Sure enough, one teaspoon weighs about 3 grams. Before I had calculated the dose based on info on the Corid site and from my phone call to the mfg. Either way, the dose works out to 1.5 teaspoons being about the same as 9.5ml of the liquid. Problem is that most people assume that one with an educator badge knows what they posting about.


Other things, too, like ivermectin and moxidectin doses, most people recommend giving 10x the mfg's recommended dose. Sigh...

The educator badge has been tightened up now so hopefully it will be better now.

Having one is quite a responsibility though.

I have my doubts, lol.

My first two hatches were in a Brinsea mini. The first I got four out of eight. The second hatch I only got one...Dobby. My last hatch was the Easter one, with a styrobator. 23 out of 35. I hover. I keep a notebook and every four hours I would check and note.down the temps of the three thermometers. I'm not good at lockdown. I try, but I'm always fiddling with the eggs and rearranging them.

I should have went with the 1588. I bought the Little Giant 9300 and 10300. Huge mistakes. I get the temp set at 102 in one end 98 at the other. Come back 5 mins later and the temp is 108 in one end 95 in the other.
The 10300 has a fan type thing. It looks like a fan and turns; but does not move air.
I just took an old laptop apart for the fan.
Im gonna try to figure out a way to rig it up without burning down my house.

One problem with adding the fan is the direction of air flow. They air needs to blow into the incubator not out. The temperatures will be wrong if the fan is pulling the air up from the vents. It has to push down and through the vents.

@ronott1 , no doubts about the responsibility of being an educator, just doubt that there will be a difference in misinformation from them.

It is real cold here and is going to stay that way for a few days. It snowed a little, just enough to cover the ground again. Chickens don't seem to mind. They were out in the yard and it' was 2 degrees. I'm hoping for warmer days pretty soon. I have a broody that is sitting on 9 eggs and they are due to hatch March 2. She never leaves the nest. I have a heat light in the coop which isn't doing anything but giving light. It's a red one I put in there. She gets company every day from one of the hens that goes and lays an egg in there. I got to witness that this morning when I went out to let them out. They have snow in the forecast for several days and unfortunately they are usually right about it. Why can't the weatherman flub up now. Lol! I hope it doesn't snow to much for you Super chemical girl.

My fans never blow directly at the eggs. In styros the wind hits the top and disperses to the sides.

In my cabinet bators it pulls hot air to the floor and then rises up

.

We added shelves to this one to hatch with. It had an invcuvue thermostats - my only non stc 1000 bator.

I'm interested! Take and post pics please. I am using two different types of bators now.

We bought the thermostat Oz now can you tell me how to hook it up please?

I have a few peking duck eggs going in the hatcher Sat. so wish me luck.
