The Old Folks Home

@ linda-- wow , the 10th will come fast.  FIL had both knees done years ago-- many manyyears on the basketball court. HE said it was worth taking his pain meds and getting to the PT asap. Like with in days after the surgery. Racketball and basketball are not in his cards but golf and cards are  these days. Praying all goes well and you have a quick recovery time.

Thanks, everybody for your kind wishes. I'll be doing the 2-3 wk. rehab. You bet I'll be following orders in there. Ha!! No, I've never had bantams and they are so cute. Five tiny one's and a blue egg layer mix with my Blosl white rock. BIG fellow. And it turns out that my handyman is busy until after thr 10th, so I'll have to pray that he follows my instructions on completing the growout pen. He's Clints cousin so they may decide the little woman needs a little help. It's happened before.

As a Science fiction fan I loved loved loved Dune.  I red it first when I was in high school as a freshman.  Then I read it once a year after that.  Odd how your perspective changes as you get a bit older.  I read it once a year till I was about twenty.

Then I read it once every two till I was about twenty six...  Again each time I got different stuff out of it.

The Theater movie I liked was the one with Kyle Mclaughlin, Patric Stewart, Sting and Linda hunt as Shadowt Mapes.

The mini series on the Science Fiction Channel was far better, more in tune with the book.  The book is a difficult movie to make because much of it is internal dialogue.

Probably time to read it again.

Frank Herbert is one of my favorite authors even though I have only read two others besides the Dune Triliogy.

He wrote
Lazarus effect
Helstroms Hive

I havent read
Destination void series

Harry Harrison is another of my favorites:
Captive Universe is one of my favorites even though its a Novella....  Around 50,000 wortds or around a 150-200 pages.

He also wrote the Stainless Steel Rat series...  Individual books about a single character...  What a hoot.

One of the very best authors EVER that you haven't mentioned is Lois McMasters Bujold. Her writing is stunning. Scifi at it's best. Her Vorkosigan series is terrific.

I forgot to mention that she's won more awards than anybody except Heinlein.
