The Old Folks Home

My contractor is starting the duck pond project today.

It's going to be a 10' by 15' rectangle, plumbed for easy draining & cleaning. He's building it partially above ground (less digging to do) out of pressure treated lumber. We've planned for it to be between two and two-and-a-half feet deep. The flock of ducks and both ganders will be able to SWIM in more than just circles, as they currently do in the round 300 gallon stock tank.

Whoot!

That sounds awesome. How often do you think you'll have to clean it?

Quote: Some people choose to add dairy. ALL of us experience stalls when too much dairy is consummed!! You are not alone! Nuts get me too.

THe sausages are a problem, as all the commerical products add sugar; and I stay away from the deli counter except for cheeses. I've noticed even deli roast beef gets my cravings roaring.

I use a lot of oo and butter both, and a little canola oil. Along with beef fats, and chicken fats, etc. Margarine-- I quit that over 20 years ago-- geez, the years are marching on. My kids have never had margarine. Even DH stopped buying it a few years ago. I follow Atkins because it is not as limiting as Paleo--this is what works for me. I love both broiled tiny cabbages in oo with salt AND frozen broccali in butter. I figure it is ALL better than what most SAD dinners are.

My kids like this:

Mix in a mug: 1 T butter melted, 1 T cream, 1 whole egg, few drops peppermint ext or vanilla
Add: 1T cocoa, 1 T splenda, 2T ground almonds.
Microwave about 1 minute.

You can alter the ingredients to make it paleo, use cocoanut oil ; not sure if you are allowed splenda. Which is why I like Atkins-- a little more freedom. ANd I LOVE home made blue cheese dressing to go on my greens. YUM. Hate the bottled stuff.

I sleep a LOT better since permanently going low carb-- not more waking up at night, and watching TV for hours. I have much more energy too. No afternoon slump-- none. Love it!!

As this storm entered my area, 100-mph winds were recorded. I'm so thankful it went north of us and glad no one was hurt here.

Waiting for photos.

For you that are dieting. I am thinking you have to do a certain diet..because of health problems? Or are you trying to lose weight? I've been losing some weight, I'm just doing my own thing, counting calories, but I've noticed, I eat better when I am trying to lose weight. So, that probably says something about how I ate before, and no wonder I'm trying to lose weight. I'm excited..I've lost a whole size since I started.

Bernie, the Filipino Chicken Phenom (aka my gardener) put together this 6x6 pond for our future ducks to swim in squares.

Oh how nice!

Linda you must post pics of the project as it is being built and of course the final result (picturing ducks and geese all swimming happily together

Cynthia, good for you! DH and I decided to do the same thing over a year ago. We both wanted to lose weight so we just started eating healthier. We still have a treat every now and again but we have kept up with the less carbs, more veggies and protien. We both feel better.
