The Old Folks Home

I am in the same boat. I came to AL. in 1989 but is hard on people that come here. Even though my grandmother was born here and I still have family here.
All my friends were in Cali. So I have internet friends and I love and cherish the friendships I have on here and on FB.

What do ya'll do when a hen goes broody and another hen keeps adding to her egg pile daily? I have a turkey hen gone broody sometime this last week and here companion hen keeps laying eggs in the same nest even though she has one of her own. I know it will be a problem come time for them to hatch so any suggestions? Please.
If you have an incubator you can remove the eggs when they pip and stick them in it.

Glad I'm not the only one with only internet friends.

As far as the eggs go, I mark what should be under her with a sharpie. When she gets off the nest daily I'll grab the ones that are not sharpied.

I have an internet friend who will take my horse if I pass away suddenly.... we are making the arrangements final soon. My horse needs to go to someone who understands Draft horses and can deal with a Draft horse mare that is an Alpha and knows how to throw her weight around.

I have never met her... in person

I've never done turkeys, but I have had quite a number of broody chickens. I have:

Removed the broody and her eggs to a separate pen where she could brood without being disturbed by other birds.

Marked the eggs that she was setting on, and removed any eggs without markings as they are added daily.

Removed pipped eggs/chicks as they are discovered; I had an uber-broody Silkie that produced chicks for something like 3 months before I finally let her keep a couple just to get her up and moving again.

I've been living in the same house for over 45 years, some of original families are still here. Others have known me for 25 years or so when our kids where in Parent-tot class, pre school, kindergarten,,. Except for one mother who was close in age to me , the others were roughly 15 years younger than me. I liked them but, they didn't seem to want a friendship.

I never fit in with PTA types. Despite all the years here, I do not have one friend I could call up and go to a movie with or out to lunch etc. The ladies on the senior bus refuse to try anything new like a "Talking" movie. Just kidding. They say all the movies stink - though they haven't seen any since Gone with the Wind.

I had 'friends' ? when I walked a great deal, they were in different suburbs and friendlier than the ones in my neighborhood. They said they wanted to walk with me - never did.

Used to have great friends when I showed dogs. I used to trim their dogs and evaluate their litters and give them equipment I didn't need. etc. Some had been like second parents to me. When I got out of dogs, they all unfriended me. The "second parents," dumped me when I had my son because he was more important to me than having dogs.

The folks I know (through BYC) have been the best friends I've ever had. I have no idea what they look like, we will probably never meet. But they know me better than my family. I think because they actually pay attention to what I post, as I do about them. My family pulls the "uh-huh" bit when I try to tell them anything - it's not worth the effort.

People say we have no friends nowadays because of computers and texting and tweeting and whatever. But, I obviously didn't have any real friends, before computers.

I really feel a connection between my friends here and it is important to me. Computers and BYC have given me that. But a lot of the folks on here are just the right kind of people, that really do care about others. Even though I don't know most of their real names or where they live etc. I count them as true friends.

BYC friends are the best

Thank you Wisher.

Reminds me of an old Lucille Ball episode where she joined "The friends of the friendless." Of course she made it hysterical.
